Bilstein HD Questions
I have my suspension set up planned and I'm confused with which Bilstein shock application is correct. I intend to install ROW M030 Springs w/ m030 ARB. Spoke with Bilstein USA and what I know:
Tire Rack offers 2 Bilstein B6 HD shocks:
1. Part 35-046929 & 35-046936 - per Bilstein USA this is a European fitment but could not determine if it had extra threads
2. Part 35-116486 &35-116493 - per Bilstein USA this is designed for US ride heigh
3. B8 - per Bilstein offers up to 20 mm drop.
Carrenewal confuses me more:
B6, extra threads (is this shock #1 perhaps?)"Bilstein B6 shocks are an excellent upgrade for the factory Monroe or Boge shocks.
They will work with US/RoW standard or M030 springsBecause of this extra threads, a lowering of another 10-15mm by using the same spring is possible".
B8:The Bilstein B8 shocks have the same damping as the Bilstein B6 but the stroke of the pistons is 20mm shorter.
Due to the shorter rebound, it makes the Bilstein B8 an excellent match for the use with RoW M030 and M033 spring as it eliminates the "floating spring" issue.
Bilstein B8 shocks have standard threads and are not extra threaded like the B6 shocks.
Bilstein USA rep suggested finding the interchange part number for the OEM shock that came with ROW m030 suspension. Anyone have that?
I can research but also looking for ride height as follows:
US Ride Height
M030 US Ride height
ROW M030 ride height

dont use tire rack. use Gert.
M033 can work with B6XT (what you call HD) but you get floating springs which causes troubles in countries that have yearly technical inspections, like all EU countries...
“Floating springs” are the springs that are loose between the spring perches once you have lifted up the car. Note that even with floating springs, you don’t have a problem once the car is on the ground.
For this reason, we combine M033 springs with either B8 or FSD shocks.
The B8 are the same as the B6XT/HD but only the piston length is shorter which eliminates the floating springs.
The downside of the B8’s is that they don’t have as much threads in the front as the B6XT=HD. That means that you can set the car to the M033 height, but not lower.
If you want to keep good comfort, then the best alternative are the Koni FSD.
These match the M033 springs very well. Downside is that the shocks have a fixed height in the rear, just like the factory shocks.
The B6 and B8's are valved more sporty and are threaded front and rear which offers slightly more adjustment when setting the height of the car.

+ 993 I recently purchased the MO33's with the Bilstein B8's from Gert. Prompt, courteous service at a great price. There is a modest duty you will get hit with, but the dollar is still pretty strong and Gert's prices look still look pretty darn good right now. Compare the cost of Gert's wide ovals ($548) to $750 at Suncoast. And it was formerly just $510 US, but the exchange has gone up.
And the new ROW ride height and ride are both perfect!

Gert certainly sounds like a viable option but I'm still not certain if I should go with the B6+extra thread or B8. I've emailed him but hoping for more clarity on this thread. One negative, I believe is Bilstein USA will not accept any warranty claims.

Like some of the others, I went with b8 m033's and Carnewal. Price and service were great; I placed the order on a Thursday and they arrived in California on Monday.
I haven't measured the ride height but it looks like this:
Best of luck with whichever you decide,

I have the B6 HD with M030 ARB's and ROW Springs on my car.
Love the look - ride height!!
I am in contact with Bilstein at present addressing an issue with this setup.
Bilstein B6 - HD has Extra Threads. 46mm Monotube Shock Absorber AS PER WEBSITE INFO
Part Number: 24-061308 FOR REARS and Fronts are 35 - 116486 and 116493 HD B6
B8 is a little shorter.
Re: Springs I read on P car ROW part #
M030 EURO REARS: 993 333 531 11 and
FRONT: 965 343 531 01 504
http://stores.revolutionparts.com/su...96534353102504
M030 FRONT ARB 22 MM – 993-343-707-01
M030 REAR STABILIZER – 20 MM – 993-333-701-03
M030 RESULT 95 / 5 Street / Track Set-up.
The US / NA Car will obtain a lower center of gravity.
The result is the car will corner considerably flatter exhibiting more grip from the tires vs standard suspension. This is the ideal highway setup.
Depending on your intended use this may or may not be for you >?
More Track - Its recomended u go with an Adjustable Struts not the HD B6 or B8.
I will send u a PM TJ

Found her in your backyard in Staten Island. Never thought I'd go for the wing either, but I really like the look of the stock aero key she came with from the factory.
To the OP, here's an article I hope will be helpful. FYI my new suspension with the MO33's and B8's has the car precisely at ROW height.

I own a 95 Cab. It was recommended by a few experts (Gert and the guys at FD Motorsports) that I should avoid the MO30 springs due to they are a little 'harsh' for the 993 cab model. I purchased the ROW MO33 springs and B8's-along with many other suspension refresh items from Gert and honestly couldn't be happier. I would say about 500-1000miles on them the suspension really settled in and the ride is great for me.
If you have a coupe maybe the MO30's instead? However, I believe these would just be a slightly stiffer rider and if you're not doing any DE or Track days maybe go with the MO33's. Honestly, either will likely give you a far better ride than what is currently on your car! Good luck.

Had some correspondence with Gert and few forum members that provided some useful info. After telling Gert that my intention was to set the ride height at ROW m030 levels and no lower using ROW m030 springs he recommended Bilsteins B8s or even Koni FSD. understand a problem with B6 is "loose springs" that can cause reseat issues when jacking the car up.
Haven't considered Konis as I only thought they work with M033 springs. Anyone have Koni/Row m030 set up? Seems like a few here have the after mentioned setup with B8's with no issues.
