My journy to my just acquired 1998 Carrera S
I have recently acquired a low mileage 1998 993 Carrera S.
Wasn't sure if I would ever own a 993, but when I came across this car...I knew this 993 is "the one" for me. It had the exterior and interior colors I wanted and is a stock, low mileage car.
Having grown up as a military brat, we moved constantly when I was growing up. While in High School we lived in Germany and that is where my love for the Porsche brand started. A number of my father's German friends had 911's and I just thought they were the sweetest car I had ever seen.
Fast forward. I now in my mid 50's and have owned a number of different Porsches. A 1964 SC Coupe, and 1987 Carrera, and 1971 914-6, a 1973 911 T and now the 1998 C2S. My wife doesn't share my love for old Porsches, so if I want to try a different model, I have to sell the current one.
Each of my prior Porsches were special to me, but in particular the 1971 914-6, and the 1973 911 T. I was the 3rd owner of the 1973 911 T. It was manufactured while I was living in Germany! The original owner took extremely good care of the car........you would have thought it was her first born child. Everything was original, paint, upholstery, carpeting, motor etc. As I bought it, I really did think this would be my last Porsche.
But as time went on, my interest in the 993 model kept increasing. I had owned a Porsche for the 60's, 70's and 80's but never the 1990s. I do believe the 993's are the prettiest 911 model made!
As this 993 model came to my attention, I thought on a whim, if the owner would trade his 993 for my 1973 911 T, then so be it. Well.........I made the offer and low & behold he accepted.
While the 73 911 had a very raw visceral feel and sound, the 993's handling is awe inspiriting. Obviously all of you already know that!
Can't say with 100% certainty that this is my last Porsche acquisition.......I do think it may. The new water cooled 911's while extremely nice.....do nothing for me. It has to be air cooled.
Look forward to participating on this Forum!

First time I have seen a cashmere interior with arctic silver paint. Congrats! I would rather have the 914-6 though.

Congratulations - I also got a 993 C2S a few weeks ago - my '98 has 38k miles. How many does yours have? Beautiful car. Our interiors are the same; love the combo more than I thought I would.
Enjoy!

Welcome and congratulations. To part with those Porsches, it's obvious you love your wife. Fortunately for me, my wife has been a car person from the get-go and recently bought a Macan Turbo.

Nice story. So you and the PO of the 993s simply traded cars? Interesting. That doesn't happen too often ( at least I have not seen an actual swap occur since I became an adult)
Very nice cars, all of them.
Enjoy the S!!
