Steering wheel recovering
Well, it's time to do a little group recovery again. Steering wheels, that is.
I am about to ship one of my steering wheels to Carsdream in Poland for leather re-covering. Those who don't know what is involved are welcome to read the previous thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...s-that-is.html Those who do should be aware that it's not something I make any money on, it's simply a community project to save some money on shipping and actual work.
So... it appears that if you send your wheel to Poland per my instructions (it'll cost you in $65 range) you would get a re-covered steering wheel back for about $200-225 in about 6-8 weeks. It's cheaper than last go-around since Euro is down a good 20% vs USD. You can see examples of their work on the thread above or on their web page. They are capable to shaving thumbrests, adding them, thickening the wheel, doing different colors and stitching. My own 996 wheel in my 993 cab was done by them almost 5 years ago and is one of the most enjoyable steering wheels I've ever had a pleasure to hold.
In order to be involved, please PM or email me and be ready to ship your wheel this month. As always, I'll be happy to answer any questions for you.
Quick logistics note. Each person will be sending his own wheel(s) to Poland. After shipping it there, hopefully around 20th of January (don't worry, no exact date, approximately), you'll get me a description of what you'd want done (I'll create a form to fill). From there you have two choices. Have the wheel sent directly to you, which is a bit more expensive, or have it sent to me in a box with others. At this point I'll calculate and collect the money and ship the wheel to you. Since the group is getting a bit large, there might be one shipment from Poland to East coast and one to West coats.
I've decided to put the current list of interested folks here, not indicating multiple wheels, but we will easily reach 10 at this point. If you want in and don't see yourself on the list, please let me know! :
Mike (nile13)
Sid (600RR)
Gerarrd (_snowbird_)
CHSU74
Chris (waizone)
Steve (golfnutintib) - Replaced with Allan (tornado)
Sander (sander97C2)
Mark (coreseller)
Seyhan (Madturk)
Ivan (Ivan J)
OK, we appear to have 15 wheels, which, I think, as is much logistics as I can take on. We also reached the highest discount that I've been offered with this number of wheels. I'd like to close the group at this point. Those on above list (Sander is pending, please let me know) are in. If anyone would decide to get out of teh group, we can take on someone as a replacement.
I'll be sending instructions later this week for shipping the wheels out to Poland and recovery instructions to me. Thank you, gentlemen!

I tried to reach them 2-3 months back with no response. Was searching for a leather wrap, but also some attention to small cracks in carbon fiber clear resin area (you can get a glimpse of my wheel in my avatar pic). Do you know if they perform that type of service?

I'm emailing with them back and forth for the last two days. Same guy as in 2011.
I know they do carbon fiber covers, but have no idea if they do repair. Email me a closer pic and I'll ask them. Or i can give you the guy's email address I'm communicating with. Also, take a look at their gallery. There might be wheels there done in carbon fiber.

I am interested.
Would they recover airbags too? Are airbags a pain to recover? I have the plastic/leatherette airbag cover and thinking that a full leather airbag cover with double stitching and silver crest would be a nice addition to my parts bin.

I have an extra 3-spoke wheel. But it's in Boston and I'm in Miami till May.
Regarding airbag. They can possibly recover it. Well, they can probably recover it. But... I would not be part of that due to my own paranoia about airbags. I believe it's designed to break leather along some line. I'm sure that recovered bag would behave differently and might not deploy properly or whack you in the eyes with nasty pieces of leather that otherwise were design to fall away. Too much liability in my book, but, again, it's just my personal specific paranoia.
Ilko is right, Wieslaw is good people

Wieslaw is very, very good and very, very reasonable. Airbag is just the basic plastic piece with a leather cover. Remove the cover and send it.
Nile, sent you a pm.
