Default Wheel refinishing in Salt Lake City?

I have a '97 993 Narrow Body with the narrow-body hollow Turbo-Twist wheels.

Bought the car used years ago with some curb-rash on a couple wheels, and always meant to get around to refinishing them. A recent flat on the interstate chewed-up the inner edge of another wheel.

So I want to get the set refinished at long last.

Since a project has us going down to SLC a couple of times in the next few weeks,I thought it would be quite easy to take the wheels with us, and save on shipping costs. (The car is currently sitting on an old set of race wheels/tires)

Talking with local gear-heads, and some on-line research, I've come up with two shops. Wheel Werks and an independent, Fritz Braun.

Anyone have experience with either, or know of another trustworthy shop in the Salt Lake area?

Or am I better off to ship them to Wheel Enhancement in LA?

Thanks much in advance for any advice, experience or reccos.

(I'm cross-posting on a couple of boards)

If you wind up having to ship your wheels to LA for refinishing, consider http://wheeldynamics.com/

I've known Eli, the owner, for several years. He did a superb job refinishing my MY 02 wheels. They have the best machines for mounting and balancing (Corgi Artiglio and Hunter Road Force), and they know how to use them, so the wheels stay perfect.

I've heard good things about wheel works, but haven't tried them. Let me know when you find a place. I need to get mine redone.

Mike, I used Fritz Braun to repair some curb rash on my 993 turbo twist wheels. The service writer at Dave Strong's Porsche dealership told me that they used him for on site repair. He came to my house in his mobile workshop, about the size of a class C motorhome and repaired two wheels. He knows what he is doing, his repair work is excellent. I still have his business card...ALLOY WHEEL REPAIR SPECIALISTS....801-558-9116. I would use him again. No affiliation .......

Fritz refinished some vw wheels for me. Did a good job matching the color. He said he couldn't fix the polished lips on my Porsche wheels.

Give Cougar Elfervig at Lux Auto Spa a call, 801-739-3844. If he can't fix them he will know who should.

Smile I do it the easy way...

I just put the wheels in a box and send them to Wheels America in Buena Park, CA. If they need straightening, they do it if you authorize it...and they will refinish the wheels to new. $129 a wheel, you pay the freight in to them, they pay the freight back. I had them refinish some Cup 11 wheels a while back, they came out beautiful. And believe it or not 24 hour turnaround.

Also, assuming you have a bent wheel, they will only straighten it if the bend is mild...anything major and they send the wheel back to you...your total investment is the one way freight to Wheels America:
