Default Quick brake line question

The rear brake hoses on a 993 have a rubber
donut surounding the line about two inches from the body mounting end of the hose.

I put some new hoses on and I verified that the hoses do not come in contact with any surfaces when the car is put on the ground.

What was or is the purpose of the rubber donut?

Is it really needed?

Sounds like you bought crappy lines. The techna fit lines many of us bought from FDM all had those rubber donuts.

There are several threads that address your other questions from the three threads you've created for this job. All the info is on RL already. Particularly from when many of us did the group buy and installations back in 2013.

I believe the rubber donuts are meant to absorb high-frequency (2000 Hz and higher) vibrations inherent to a four-channel anti-lock braking system. Without these donuts, the brake system will frequently exhibit ABS-motor induced pulsations that, left unchecked, will lead to premature failure of the factory clear coat on our calipers.

And a vibration that can be felt in the pedal.

Some equate the feeling to someone is pulling on your leg...

Everybody knows that.... geez.. (nicely done BTW)

The AN lines I used didn't have the donut. I was going to start a thread on my solution, but will post here.

The original line had a core of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings were in a direct line with the pentametric stopper. The main casing was of the normal lotus-o-delta type placed in panendermic semi-boloid slots in the stator, every seventh strand being connected by a nonreversible trem'e pipe to the differential girdlespring on the 'up' end of the grammeters.

Forty-one manestically spaced grouting brushes were arranged to feed into the rotor slipstream a mixture of high S-value phenylhydrobenzamine and 5% reminative tetryliodohexamine. Both of these liquids have specific pericosities given by P = 2.5C_{n}^{6.7} where n is the diathetical evolute of retrograde temperature phase disposition and C is Cholmondeley's annular grillage coefficient. Initially, n was measured with the aid of a metapolar refractive pilfrometer, but up to the present date nothing has been found to equal the transcendental hopper dadoscope. Undoubtedly, the turbo-encabulator has now reached a very high level of technical development. It has been successfully used for operating nofer trunnions. In addition, whenever a barescent skor motion is required, it may be employed in conjunction with a drawn reciprocating dingle arm to reduce sinusoidal depleneration.

Hey, can’t a long term Rennlister ask a simple question and get a strait answer? Thanks guys for all your insights. Since the clear coat on my calipers has chipped off already I guess there is no need to attach the donuts that came with the kit, unless there are some other nefarious reasons why they come with donuts. All I can see their purpose is to attract police officers. Something our cars do already.

I called Stop-Tech who made the hoses I purchased. They confirmed that the donut is for certain applications where the hose rubs against a suspension or other component. If there is no contact the donut is not needed.
