So...this 97 tippy cab could fall in my lap cheap
Arena red, matching top, grey guts 86K miles, Motor sound, computer, not much else. Butt ugly 19" TSW wheels, stock ride height. Same owner since 99, no real service records...just what it needed. Batteries, alternator...has CEL, butt runs very well. Weeping valve cover's, faded bumper covers, lightly cracked tail lights, stone guards removed years ago, so some road rash. Driver door check strap broken in door, after previous lousy fix attempt, aftermarket windshield with very poor fitting gasket. Absolutely no rust, or bubbling paint anywhere.
Condition: exterior is 7-8/10, matching top looks very nice, interior is in need of a good cleaning.. Driver seat has some craking, generally looks like it wasn't lovingly cared for. No winters
I would consider buying this purely to clean, fix some stuff...and flip. So having said that, what would this potentially be worth in today's market...somewhere in the $35-40K range?

Dumping codes tomorrow, prior to considering PPI. Anyone able/willing to run a carfax for me, just to verify this guys story.? Thanks...

Joe- if you address all those issues, clean up the interior, and couple hours with a random orbital, I see this potentially be worth 40-42. This all depends on your purchasing price to make it worthwhile.

Looks like a fun project, but I wouldn't recommend buying a red tippy cab for a flip. And you know what they say about buying the owner, not the car...

If it becomes mine, I'll need that above referenced set of oem twists. At this point, after talking to the owner again at length today about the many mechanical, and cosmetic issuss the car has...if the PPI throws up a huge red flag...he'll adjust the price accordingly. The car should be mine in less than a week. If only if was a stick...well, and a coupe too. Anyway, I think this is gonna be real enjoyable to bring this car back to glory. Pretty sure my 14 yo daughter will think it'll be hers.

As someone who has bought and sold many 993's, 964's, 911's over the past few years - I would strongly suggest only buying this car if it is cheap enough that you could sell it to a retailer or Porsche wholesaler for a profit, after factoring in tax title registration and insurance (assuming you don't hold or are using someones dealer license). The Tiptronic transmission hurts the value of that car about $10k and the wheels another $2k. It will be very challenging to retail this for over $40k. PM me, I can carfax it for you if youd like.

Epic fail on the PPI...SAI tubing in the left bank plugged, diverter valve bad also...but that's the good news. Cylider #5 50 psi below average, and leakdown was 67%. Ya can't polish a pig... Not even for low 20's...
What's that old saying...if it's too good to be true, it probably is. I was so looking forward to bringing it back to life too.
Final discussion with the owner tomorrow, unless he accepts another offer about $7k below our previously agreed price...the deal is dead.
Anyone interested in the specifics, pm me.
