Default How did this happen?? Hole in plastic-housing next to fan hub!

I just popped the engine hood to discover this?!

1) Is it common due to old brittle plastic?

2) Is it safe to drive it (to the mechanic)?

3) Is it a big operation to fix it?

THANKS!

One day someone needs to respond like a dealership! "You're gonna need an engine rebuild, while we're in there we'll have to re-build the trans and put in a new clutch".

Usually caused by mice getting into the system.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I actually did search because I remember seeing similar pictures previously, but I remember it beging a different part (tube-shaped). I'll try harder the next time guys!

reddy / kreeshp > Thanks, nice to know it's common!

bcameron59 > You're awesome! Found and ordered the part from a european parts dealer.

Two in a week now.
I would drop the engine and do a reseal.
Don't forget to send out the injectors.
