Andy,
The looseness seems to be there even at rest. It would be nice if I could actually get under there when the car has weight on it, and have someone wiggle the wheel while I feel and watch for play. With the weight off the wheels, everything moves smooth and easy, no play noticed...

I think no real effect, I believe the main benefit will be in a longer life, the rubber goes mushy after awhile. I recall the earlier cars being directly bolted, with no bushing.
My thought of the need was isolating the power steering "hmmmmmm" noise from the cabin, anyone else??
