Had a Bad 2 YEARS ...and going
My best friend since the age of 7 @ school, lent me a loft-workshop in Paris some years back. (RARE)
This workshop-loft was built, sharing one side of his house, and the adjacent wall to another house.
He lent me all for free, my hobby was his passion every saturday, and we never watch football.
Soon we were many to join saturdays, BBQ'S etc etc.
Did a full repaint on car, and kept it on the lift high, without the wheels
October 31st 2012, my friend deceased from a heart attack @ 48
I did not go to the workshop after that, every sabath, but once every month. Heating the illy brewer, and sipping espresso, looking around, did not touch car
October 31st 2013, the house next to the workshop caught fire. The roof @ the workshop caught fire, and my friends house too.
Firefighters called me, 20 minutes ride and I saw all gone in ashes.
The car just got flames and high temps, but firefighters filled the cabin with foam and water for about an hour constantly.
Then a bunch of those brave people climbed on the wooden workshop roof, and crushed it to small bits, on the car, etc.
I was not hurt, had a strange feeling will do it again.
My wife cried for an hour, on my behalf, for the hours spent.
Insurance paid me $75k.
Dismantler bought the car @ auction for $30k equiv. for his son (I am in contact still)
I could never buy one with local economy, but I will if I can.
went into 993 silence since a year, but back nostalgic, and found loads of email.
If I have a message to all the buddies here? just don't over-try to render your car superb, I think I was lucky enough to just practice my 993 hobby on it. (or did I just convince myself that)
I am a financial broker in Bonds, ****ty economies these days, so a 993 is very very far.

Before 2012
After Full respray
After Full respray
After Full respray
After the decease, was trying narrow body big ovals on carrera s
Fire extinguishing
Fire Aftermath
Everything rusted with the fire and foam in one night
Fire Aftermath
All Parts in stock had wooden roof rain. 90% is in porsche boxes, NOT those softback sport seats
my little desk after the flood dried

That's awful. Hang in there, things will take a turn for the better. I have no doubt you'll find another 993. You certainly have the skill to restore one if necessary. Speaking of which, I'm sending you a PM.

George,
I'm very sorry to see what happened, and also for the loss of your good friend. I wish you all the best moving forward and hope to see you back in a 993 one day. Your contributions to Rennlist have inspired me for many years.
As an aside, I came home earlier this year and found the trash can in my shop completely engulfed in fire. If I had had come home 10 minutes later, the garage, the 993 and my wife's A4 would have been destroyed. Along with a ridiculous amount of tools. My neighbor and I ran right into the smoke-filled garage and succeeded in putting the fire out.
Way too close for comfort and I get chills when I look at the smoke damage in the shop.

George, all I can say is you have been a great help to many on here, including myself. A smooth sea never produced a great sailor, and I'm sure very soon, good fortune will come your way and you'll be able to make the most of it.
Best of luck, and take care of yourself in the meantime, George

So sorry for your losses. Those were two very trying years. I remember you giving me some pretty handy and creative suggestions for removing my crank pulley bolt when my fan disintegrated and really appreciated your knowledge and experience. I thought you were a pro mechanic somehow but finding out you're a finance guy is even better - it's evidence of your passion for these cars. You can't replace friends but I believe you'll have another 993 again. There's always a deal out there somewhere. Good luck.

George -
Very sorry for your loss. You never realize how short life can be. Hopefully time will heal your wounds and you'll find yourself in another 993 someday.
Take care pal!

George--so very, very sorry for your loss. A good friend, your car, and place to work on it, all in such a short time.
You have been a true friend and great asset to all of us on this forum. You are one of the information sources that I trust completely.
I wish you peace and healing.

Likewise, sorry to hear of the personal and 993 losses.
Want a total DIY? Almost ready to cut loose with the carcass of the yellow car. Too bad you aren't local.
My story is that I quit leaving the 996 Turbo out at the shop in my "car" unit after it became known that an adjacent unit (though separated by the vending operation) was a marijuana grow operation. Which the landlord did nothing about..... When the guy moved out a couple of months ago I was able to see how it was a fire waiting to happen, with the crap wiring and such.
Guess I'm glad the 4S is sitting in the backyard where pretty much only something falling from the sky could damage it.
