Default Remove tach from the rear?

There was a thread on this some time ago but I can not locate it.

If someone could help with this I'd appreciate. Removing tach from the rear.

The tach needs to come out the front of the dash.

The gauges needed to come out the front of the dashboard as another member said.

But if you have very skinny long arms or maybe a piece of broom handle or similar you can push the gauges out or at least start too from inside the front boot hinge area if your careful. Is that what you mean ?

personally I just remove the clock whilst sitting in the driver's seat as that seems to be the easiest to get out, then put my hand through the hole and push the other gauges out from behind

I would definitely NOT use a screwdriver with a towel. That's an accident looking for a place to happen. Simply let the car warm in the sun for a half hour and you should be able to pry it free with your bare hands as you turn it from side to side. A plastic knife may also be utilized for some initial leverage - but no screwdrivers please.

There are plastic body panel tools at Harbor Freight for a couple o bux; they work great!

I suspect the OP was asking about removing the tach by pushing the tach from the rear.

If you remove the speedo first, you can push the tach out from the back.

I found the Tach removal information provided by Tore on his website to be very useful. His website is http://www.porschehvac.bergvill.com/ From the home page click on On Board Computer Backlight. Removal of the Tach is the first step of this DIY.

I followed this approach when I removed my gauges to install LEDs.

Default Tachometer removal and bulb replacement

Hey hey I thought I'd give my two cents... the clock is the easiest gauge to pull out. Use the plastic pry tools that were mentioned in this thread. CARFULLY pry the clock out until you can grab it and pull it out. Reach behind and push from the rear the speedo. Once you have the speedo out push from the rear on the tachometer. The tachometer is the most difficult to get out but if you spin it 180 degrees it comes out. The bottom of the tachometer is not as big as the top. Sounds super silly but the whole operation takes 10 min. Replace BOTH bulbs. I used an 8mm socket to remove and replace the bulbs, the screwdriver doesn't work as well. Hope this helps.

Post removal of the clock or tacho... when you push them back in place, just leave them short from the complete home position by 1mm. You won't see the difference but they come out a lot easier next time you want access.

Not sure if I would have figured that out myself. Sage advise indeed - Thank you!

A little silicone spray lube on the rubber gasket works wonders for reinstallation, adjustment, or re-removal.

Buy the plastic pry tools from Harbor Freight. They DO make the job a million times easier. You CAN also remove the tach without disassembling other stuff first, too. With the tools, I was able to remove mine in just a couple minutes (upgraded gauge lights to LED).
