Default What was I thinking?

Yep, was just going to do a light clean before PSS10 install and here's where I am. Can't turn back now- full undercarriage detail next. Guess now is as good a time as any to dive in deep. Actually been a lot of fun taking her apart. Hope I remember where everything goes.

Before and after pics to follow

Good idea to change the fan resistors while the front bumper is off!

It's a good time to check for rust under the rear lateral supports.

Agreed. I did the same this spring when I had everything apart. Good to have the peace of mind and know that it's taken care of now.

@MartinC2S: how was your rust situation? Mine had some, but nothing major - I heard that some people actually found holes there...

Agreed . Every one of these cars should be inspected for rust in that rear sub frame area and corrected before serious damage happens.

Uber, I had much less that what I see in your pics. Maybe 1 or 2 spots smaller in size than a pencil eraser. They all came off very easily with a wire wheel.

I too have seen horror pics of people where the rust has eater right through and left a hole. Mine was far far from that though. Seeing what was under there I probably didn't need to take the supports off and do all the work but at least now I know I'm set for another 20+ years.

Martin,
After removing the rust with a wire wheel, what protection was applied to inhibit the regrowth of rust and protect the metal?
TIA

I used a direct to rust pain that I brought back with me from the UK when I was there a couple months ago. I couldn't find a specific direct to rust pain here in NA that I felt comfortable using. It's called Hammerite Silver (smooth finish)

http://www.hammerite.co.uk/products/...oth_finish.jsp

I applied 5 thin coats of that and then applied 3 or 4 liberal coats of a underbody wax sealer to get in the spaces between the supports and the frame and also to fill in that one dumb hole that's stamped in the factory.

Its awesome, although not quite high enough for me to stand completely underneath. Was the tallest I could find. I'm 6-4.
Makes working on the car fun.

Got it here:

They installed it also.
