Default Triptonic ?

Thinking of getting a triptonic for my wife
Any thing that I should be aware that is different from a manual in terms of maintenance
Thanks

That's tiptronic, not triptonic. In any case, its a great transmission. No special maintenance. Drive in M mode for fun, though.

They're very reliable transmissions. Just regular service per the maintenance schedule. As Cuda said, drive it in "M" mode. In automatic mode the car is rather sluggish.

Default Tip

Great tranny. I use mine in 3 unless on extended freeway drive. In 3 the car starts in first and the shift points are higher.....pretty peppy actually. Transmission screens are supposed to be replaced at 60K I had this done and tech said old ones were fine and fluid was as well.

I have loved this car since 06 but this is probably gonna be the last top-down Ohio summer for it. I may have to grow up.

What's this '3' business? You got D or manual mode on mine. Am I missing a trick here? New-ish owner of a 993 Tip.

Auto options are 1,2,3,D Select 3 restricts the gearing to 1 - 3, and as stated 1st is selected at stop or close to stop rather then 2nd if in D. D will select 4th at any opportunity which is generally well under the rev required. Most Tip owners will drive manual mode to get the performance they are looking for.

Well, there's an interesting factlet I have never heard of! I will try that on my next drive.

i didn't know this trick of driving the car in 3 most of the time when I had my Boxster. I did observe that in D in started in 2 most of the time, and felt sluggish off the line. I bought the tip as a concession to my wife, who said she might want to drive it occasionally--I guess 15 miles in three years fits the definition...

OK, drove the car this evening, and I have no idea what is meant by selecting "3."

My only choices are M and D. There are no 1, 2, 3 choices.

I think that's because it's about the 993 Tip, not 996

Yeah. Seems like it would have been a good feature to keep. Interestingly, there are little "dots" on the dash display next to 1, 2, 3, but not 4, 5. I wonder why.

Drove my 993 Tip today in '3' and it works really well as described in this thread. Great to know and luckily discovered early in my ownership journey.

Thanks to contributors.
