CDR-210 vs CDR-220

Like mike cap said, you can remove the CD changer if you want. There are other aux cables available that run through the CD changer jacks so you lose the CD changer, but with Becker you can have the best of both worlds. I still like to play CD's - (you should see my album collection). I think mike is also right on the auto select, and will report back to verify this. The turnaround time was about a week, and they should be shipping it back tomorrow.

Interesting option from Becker to add the aux in port on the back. Thanks for taking the time to figure that out, as well as for taking the time to figure the differences in freq response between early and late CDR-210s. I'd be quite interested to see how you switch between the aux in port and the CD changer when you get the CDR-210 back. Last year I went through a bunch of effort to do the same thing .... I enabled my CR-220 (would have worked with my old CR-210 as well) to play aux in, bluetooth, cd changer, etc .... No loss of functionality. Check my sig for the writeup...
The absurd thing though is that 10 times out of 10 I keep the radio switched off and just listen to the lovely engine sounds. :-)

Ken, see this post below. Your welcome next time we meet say at MikeJ's BBQ to check out this deck I installed early this year. Personally if going with any aftermarket units this would be the best option IMO. You get a period correct looking deck with all of today's technology.

Just got my CR 210 back from Becker today. Here's a few pictures of the auxiliary cable. Looks very clean. Total cost [I]including[I]the updated chip was only $100, plus shipping. Seeing a local installer on Friday that comes high recommended. He's owned two 996 turbos and presently drives a 991, so he knows Porsches (and is probably very expensive).

Thanks Foxman ---- would I be right in assuming that there is a switch built into the 1/8" audio port, and that if something is plugged into the 1/8" audio port that that then overrides the tuner, overrides the CD changer, and overrides the cassette deck?

I haven't done the install yet, but that's correct. It's as easy as that - just plug and play.

If you have a switch blank, you could replace the blank with an unmarked switch - 928-613-240-00 .
Then you could open up the grey cable that becker provides and find the wire inside the grey cable that provides "sensing" if something is plugged into the 1/8" audio jack. Then, you would route that wire to 928-613-240-00 .

Do you have a switch blank in the center console? (Or is the switch blank consumed by a switch that controls targa roof operation?)

Sorry that your console is already full of switches.
Another place you could potentially put switch 928-613-240-00 is above the ignition keyhole. You will see in the picture below that older 911s and I think 964s had this switch installed above the ignition keyhole. I have not taken apart this part of my dash to verify that the hole in the 993 is there. However, when I press around with my fingers I can certainly feel a rectangular void behind the vinyl that feels to be the right size for this switch.

On a related note, pretty cool how they kept all of those switch locations and just didn't remove the vinyl covering, huh? Just another one of those unique things of the air-cooled 911s.

CDR-210 vs CDR-220
I explored getting my CDR-210 tweaked, but I hate cables, as they are the province of Satan.
I went for a non-period correct Alpine that had Bluetooth, preamp boost, and parametric EQ. It even has time delay parameters that you can dial in to eliminate phasing, if you wish. (I didn't wish.) Even with my original vintage HiFi speakers, the system sounds f**king incredible! Loud as f**k too.
