Doors won't lock
Noticed this the other day - my doors on the 993 won't lock with the remote. The immobilizer works and I can start the car with no problem. The little red light in the fob illuminates when I press the button, but no locky.
Any ideas?

Does it unlock or attempt too when you push the remote, or does it do nothing?
If so maybe the
Comfort control unit under the seat?
Square silver box, has a blade fuse in the side of it, that sometimes blows or the unit fails completely, normally if it fails completely the interior lights don't work either

My guess is door actuator. I had the same issue... You should read this :

If neither door will lock its not the actuators. They would not fail at the same time. Try the central lock button on the center console to see if that locks the doors.
The sketchy info so far points to the lock controller.

Fuzzy memory, anybody recall something with the ignition switch preventing the door locks from actuating? Like the switch thinking the key was still in, and preventing locking your keys in the car or something?
Never happened to me, but I seem to recall someone having that problem...

The interior central lock switch on the center console doesn't lock them either.

The first thing I would do is replace the fuse that is inside the alarm control unit, under passenger seat.
Both of my door locks were not working, and by replacing the fuse they were powered. In my case it did not totally solve the problem and had to replace door actuators.

With the ignition on is the red LED light on the central lock button lit? Does it go on and off at all when you activate the rocker switch? There are microswitches in the door lock actuators that send a signal to the controller.
Are you certain that both door actuators were working before? That is, both doors were locking?
The door actuators are a pretty weak link and subject to failure. I just replaced mine (both sides) as the drivers side had failed. I did a bit of troubleshooting beforehand.
If you want, give me a call if you're at your car and I can help you out.

Thanks for speaking with me and for the troubleshooting help Mike.
For everyone else: we walked through several troubleshooting steps but could not definitively pin down the problem.
The (further) symptoms after some testing:
- when I press the Fob, the LED on top of the door sill will flash, but does not stay flashing.
- the car (doors) make no sound whatsoever with the remote ( I can of course lock it manually with the key in the door).
- the interior central lock switch does nothing, and does not light up
- the car can start without pushing the Fob button for the immobilizer.....
- but when I start the car, turn it off, press the immobilizer button and try to restart the car, it won't start unless I press the immobilizer button before starting, i.e. normal starting procedure.
Sounds like it time to take it to my Indy shop, right???
My friend with a Jag XK-R with electrical problems is gonna get a big kick out of this...........

ACU
Betting on the Alarm Control Unit. The symptoms are the same as I went through. I sourced a 2nd hand ACU and it fixed the problem.
Good luck.

UPDATE: It was the alarm control unit, and unfortunately not just the fuse in the unit. Put in a used unit that is plug & play with no issues and at about a third of the cost of a new unit ($600).

Where did you source the used unit?
