Where did you source the used unit?
The shop (Steinel's Autowerks in Twinsburg, OH) had it. Guaranteed it for a year too.

David,

Did you have to reprogram the remotes?

Good question. I will check with them, but they didn't mention any reprogramming.

Thanks I'd like to know - probably not as they would have called you to curse you out....

They're strictly a Porsche shop, so they only do that when I take my Alfa over for something minor.

I wouldn't think a reprogramming is required if it's only the mechanism that was replaced. Maybe a reprogram would be needed if it was the alarm control unit.

Here's the answer Mike - Since it was only the Alarm Control Unit (controls the central locking system) that failed, it did not require any reprogramming. True plug & play. However if one needs the Drive Block/Immobilizer unit (different from the ACU) replaced then that would require reprogramming.

What was interesting is it's the same ACU for the 968, 993 and......928. My used replacement ACU came out of a 968. My original ACU had a 928 part number.

Several for sale on Fleabay.

Hope that helps, and thanks again for your previous help over the phone.

Dave

I'm glad I found this thread, as my symptoms are virtually identical to David's. Today I removed the passenger seat and checked the fuse on the side of the ACU, but it was OK. I also sprayed contact cleaner on the connector junctions, but nothing works. So I expect the ACU needs replacing.
@David993S, did the used ACU part number end in 03? Some of the ones on eBay end in 00.
Thanks for posting your experience. Now I need to source a new or used ACU.

Unfortunately, I don't remember what the part number was. But if you source one from a 968, 964,993, 928 (and probably others) you should be OK.
Good luck with your fix.

No problem. I know the part number, and found a used one very close to be for about $250 so will grab it and hope it does the trick in bringing things back to life.
