What is used to Diagnose a faulty Alarm system?

Where can you find (or rent?) one?

I really prefer not to play the swap game as parts are very pricey.

My system has gone from tolerable, to I think its fixed -- to completely dead.

I have a Duramatic -- but its only able to read and reset the codes.
