Default I finally got to use the donut

Blew a tire on the PA turnpike while driving to work. AAA came out and inflated the donut, then put it on. Now, where the heck are you supposed to put the flat tire? Tie it to the roof? Then it gets worse. Getting passed by hybrids. Little, slow hybrids. I hung out at work for two hours after I was finished, just so I could drive home in the dark and not be recognized. It was the right rear. I prepared for death with every left handed curve.

Sorry to hear about the flat. My 964 has a big plastic bag that appears to have come with the car when it was new along with some plastic gloves that are stored in the spare tire.

Sorry to hear . . .

For some reason, I thought if a rear tire goes it is suggested to move the front to the rear and install the donut on the front. Did I dream this up?

On the bright side, a fresh set of tires is always nice . . .

Regards,

.

Sorry to hear this. When I had a flat on my 964 I used the factory plastic bag and put the wheel in the passenger seat. If I would have had a passenger with me they would have been walking...

First time I was told that was in the early '80s, as it had been about a decade already that the donut showed up. But not so critical when you had 185s or 205s all the way around on a ~2500 lb. car.

Oh, and the one time I had a rear blowout with the 4S? Luckily we were only a few miles from home. Donut just went on the rear, 10"er with that flat 295 mounted went in the passenger seat..........and Karen was left in a not so great part of Oakland while I returned home to fetch her BMW and swap luggage.

It never occurred to me until I had my flat. No plastic bag in my car. Luckily I had a couple towels. A black trash bag is now part of my tool kit.

Great perspective and attitude with what could have been a dicey situation-blown rear tire on the turnpike in a rear engined 911! I'll bet that donut has probably never been out of the frunk of that 300k+ beauty!

You are correct. And in the owner's manual.

I have not crossed this bridge yet, but I am envisioning a flatbed to my mechanic rather than a drive on a donut. No?

No. The donut works great. Good for about 50-55 mph. Couple hundred miles no problem. Rinse & repeat.
