Broken Belt :(

Broken Belt :(
Still new to my car and just broke what appears to be the outer alternator belt (2 belts on fan, it's the one near the rear). Is it safe to drive 15 minutes to the house? Any risk besides battery dying?
Thanks for any thoughts.

Been there twice when I recently acquired my 993tt until I figured the car needed the updated alternator pulley so check if yours has the old type or the update version.
While dies the battery you might experience some knock due the lack of fuel pump flow...you better get the car on a flatbed and tow it where you want to change the belt.

Thanks for the reply. I did some additional research and decided to go for it. Made it home in 10 minutes with no issues, so now it's time to learn about changing the belts and the upgrade you mentioned.

Probably 100+ posts in this forum about the need to carry an extra set (3) of belts in your car for times like these. Of course having them and having the ability to change them could be mutually exclusive.

I will be ordering an extra set. Already have the relay that can go out, so I'll be adding these backups to the boot stock. There are some great posts on changing belts, so I'll be learning a bit more about my car this week

When I did my belts, I noticed I had the original pulley, not the updated one. The only improvement I found reading about the new one is that it removes two of the washers that are now built into the new one. If you place one of these washers - the inner one- the wrong way, it will lock the two pulleys together making a racket when you start the car since the belts are designed to spin at different speeds. I thought about replacing mine, but then I thought they had made it 18 years without issue they probably not that bad Just remember small ends of washer out away from the alt pulley like a football. It gets smaller towards the end. Or you could just get the new pulley
On the belts, read this and buy this. Drive around for a bit before reinstalling the ac belt. It's the hardest one of the 3.

AC belt is not critical. Make sure you have the correct tools with you to hold the alternator shaft and to loosen the nut.

If add this little spacer to the AC adjuster bolt , you won't need the special 13mm wrench:
