Default Windshield Replacement

After reading many of the threads here i finally went a had my sandblasted cracked windshield replaced. I chose Safelite Autoglass in Gardena, CA. They prefered to do it in-house and said it would take about 2 hours and that they would put their best technician on it. When they pulled the old windshield they found rust in the lower corner on the passenger side (gee, what a surprise) but still had solid metal. They cleaned it up, masked it off, primed it and put three coats of paint over it. After the paint dried they took their time with the antenna wire and placement of the new windshield. Total time was 3.5 hours. Total cost was 729.73 and that included the exterior gasket that had to be bought seperately. They used Pilkington glass. Totally satisfied.

I had this work done at the dealer a few years ago, Pilkington glass and genuine gaskets. They had a technician (for all I know Safelite) come in to do the work. Total was $1500, so dealer markup was 100 %.

Sounds right. I have the same with Benz. 1200 at dealer. 600 at my house with safelight (twice now under glass insurance).

Found a fine crack south to north of my windshield. I was thinking of Safelite but not sure they have experience with our windshields, but it sounds like you guys are satisfied? Definitely not bringing it to the dealer.

Yeah I'm sure satellite used templates and did it proper too

You guys using safelight have guts. Used them once on my daily years and years ago. Not only did they do a horrible job, but the vehicles window aperture rusted out 2 years later. Wouldn't let them anywhere near my vehicles.
