FWIW, you have the extra thread version. Here's a picture of mine without the extra threads. In this photo, the spring perch is at its maximum height so you can see "all" the extra threads below the perch.

Bilstein HD without extra threads, max height.

Willus- max height. Do you mean your ride height is at it highest setting?

I have ROW M030s w Bilstein HDs on my Targa and it is really killing my roof...the ride feels harsh...

Is there something I can add to make the springs pre-loaded so the ride feels less harsh or do I need longer springs?

Thank u

Yep,..thats my impression as well and why I rarely use/sell/install them.

Its the design of these springs and there isn't anything you can do to them. You either need different springs (stock, H&R) or an adjustable coilover kit such as the PSS-10 so you can adjust both ride quality and height to your tastes.

Do the M033s suffer from the same harshness as the M030s when paired with the HDs?

My Targa has M033s and HDs. I've been told my ride is pretty smooth compared to a 996 C4S (apples vs oranges). I can't tell one way or another as I don't have another car with which to do a relative comparison.

The best street ride I have come up with is Bilstein HD & H&R springs. Prior Bilstein HD & OEM U.S. standard springs were harsh at low speeds. Have to conclude the OEM springs were the main contributor. H&R progressive wound springs firm yet supple with HD shocks/struts, and eliminate the hanging spring problem as static height is longer.

The M033's are softer than the M030's so they are more compliant on bad roads.

H&R's are firmer, however they are progressive so they ride nicely for that spring rate. Further, H&R's lower the car 1.5" so if thats too much for you, you'll need to stick with one of the factory springs.

Yes. Main point being the Bilstein HD's without extra threads have very few threads visible outside the spring perch and locking nuts, so the ones in this threads have the extra threads.

I have some more photos and a few measurements here: http://twofourthsfull.blogspot.com/2...revisited.html

^ Looks like you have the B8. Prior to getting my HD B6, I was worried the B8 wouldn't go low enough. Got pics?

thank you ! last Q . if H&R lower by 1.5" ... how much does M033 , M030 lower by on HD shock ? no adjustment on B6/HD shock ?
which of these 3 springs can get to RS+10 with HD ?

M030 & M033 lowers about 12mm.

If you need a precise RS+10mm, your best choice will be coilovers (such as PSS-10) since these fully-threaded shocks can be set wherever you want.

None of the factory springs nor H&R Sports (that fit Bilstein HD's) will do this.

P-Daddy: Part number search on the Bilstein website says mine are B6. They were on the car when I bought it and are pretty old. With H&R springs, the car is too low (below RS). I put some notes on my measurements here http://twofourthsfull.blogspot.com/2...revisited.html.

Thank you , Steve ,
for the help.

RS+10 is not precise ...
RS+10 being used as rough guidance & lowest point .

So
M030 & M033 lowers about 12mm with Bilstein type HD .
And
H&R lowers about 38mm with Bilstein type HD .
