Default changing brake pad question

If before changing your brake pads, the warning light was on - should you also replace the sensors? Are they automatically damaged?

Yes. It's the sensor wearing away that causes the open-circuit.

Often times the brittle heat cycled sensor breaks during a pad change, anyways.

I just did my brakes last year, when I pulled the sensors out, it was hit and miss if you damage them while taking them out, good thing I had decided to buy new sensors for replacement as 2 out of the 4 was damaged in the process, the sensors are pretty cheap anyways.

The pads have a very long life and I end up looking at the pads at least once a yer due to state inspections. For this reason I tied off the sensor wires and tie-raped them out of the way as for me they are not a real need.

I also just removed my sensors and plugged the connectors. I rotate pads out for track days anyways so I have my eyes on them more often than needed.
