Maybe not as exciting to watch, but there is a really good YT video where the Porsche 996 GT2 driver does the Ring in 7:15 and this guy is smoooooth and in control. I must have watched it a hundred times.

If you read the Ring's Rues & Regulations, drifting isn't even allowed and there are speed limits. The Ring Taxi likely has a waiver but the Ring has those rules to protect themselves. In fact, if you wreck the track in any way, it comes out of your pocket. But at least those rules would allow you to go after some clown that ran into you. I don't think your usual insurance would cover you.

Back to the driving. As I said in the original thread of this video, I think this is an extremely poorly set up car. Sure, you can drive through anything. Been there myself with some of my POS track cars I had to do on the cheap in the '80s.

I like his driving and I think is always under control
The ring is a racetrack and you should push there and not on the street.
I got the point regarding the safety of others, but is just sufficient to ease up a little and get overtaken.
If you look at other his videos you will see his driving style.
Anyway it is a 4wd and it oversteers(who said it was not possible?)ah ah ah
just joking

re: poor car set-up comments.. Looks like a stock-ish car on street tires, driven in anger by someone who's obviously having a blast. 911's are supposed to move around at the limit & lead w/ the rear, right??
more videos on his YouTube page, fun to watch while waiting for the snow to melt ->https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2a...LLL4tJ46mRutig

Honestly I am surprised at how squirrelly the car behaves. The front end "seems" very light. Would have thought the AWD would have made more of a difference.
Exactly my thoughts- Seems very light- is there a big wing on that car? Great driving and a FEW BTM's there.

Turn this into a what viscous couple AWD on a 933 is/isn't discussion? Cuz I'm sensing a lot of what you guys think should be happening isn't really what happens.............

If you make a mess they also charge you for the amount they lose while cleaning up your mess if they have stop the track to assist you, by buying the ticket you are accepting it.

Race911- I guess I am missing your meaning. I have driven the track many times and this video looked like someone with a car that wasn't set up right, pushing it beyond safe- he's a good driver for sure- but seriously- there's a lot of **** going on - a lot of play in front end. I've felt that before in a pavement change / elevation change when the front gets light, but there's way too much of it in this video- seriously looks like too little downforce on the front for a good portion of the ride - please enlighten us

I didn't really notice any brown trouser moments? Yes, I see him sawing away at the wheel, but he seems to be a good driver. If I wasn't "warned" about potential scary moments, I wouldn't have thought twice. He was simply pushing his car?

Anyway, I was just pointing out comments that flow back to whatever "AWD" is supposed to do, and what's is going on with this car/driving would be the same no matter a 2 or a 4.

Furthermore, would not AWD contribute to that front lightness at the limit? i.e. if you are accelerating and turning, you have less traction at front wheels with AWD since some torque is transferred there?

I'm not good enough to notice the nominal 10%. You can look at steering angle v. track position on both my nearly stock 4S and faux RS, and everything looks pretty much identical. I wish I had data on two guys who were campaigning 4Ss that were heavily developed circa '98-9.
