Default Leaky storage.

Well stopped in to see my car at the heated storage and had a nice puddle in the back. Surprised since no leaks in the summer. Puddle of oil was the size of a dinner plate. Drivers side behind heat exchanger. I have a 2nd gear pop out issue also. Top end was done 8k ago with new clutch. Should I drive it assuming the leak is from sitting 3 months? Or bite the bullet this spring and do the tranny rebuild and gaskets?

Should not leak from just sitting. Is it engine oil or gear lube from the trans? Haven't heard that much about leaks from the gear box.

Where in northern MI? Got a cottage 50 miles west of the bridge in the UP. Been going up there all my life.

Sorry. Engine oil. Yea the tranny is a separate issue.
I am mostly in elk rapids, 10 mins north of traverse. I work in Grand Rapids but we have a place in elk that is usually home.

Yea I am pretty sure that's what's leaking. Reading up I see some people have change that without dropping the motor. Some
People waited to they needed to drop.

The lower valve gasket is most likely the problem. The top valve cover gaskets aren't known for leaking.

It's a very easy fix.

If you are going to do valve gaskets I would recommended than you at least consider the "billet"
aluminum valve covers that are available They don't warp and leak

If torqued to spec, in the correct pattern you should be OK without the unnecessary expense of the alum billet valve covers. At least thats been my experience.

But its your money and I dont want to discourage you to spend it as you see fit. Check the link below regarding the billet covers.

Behind the exchanger, would it not be leaking timing chain covers?

Was engine tray on?

My engine is full of oil seepages. I left my car for 4 months with engine tray on, and I had one little drop that made it from driver side valve cover.

Off topic, there is older 911 parked in the garage (late 70's or 80s), and there is a puddle of oil under the car. By spring he may not have any oil in his engine.

OP - is there some reason you didn't look above the puddle of oil to determine the source of the leak? No point in speculating, and no, you don't need "billet" valve covers. Nobody has ever needed them.

i couldn't see where exactly because the car is low, searching the site its the timing chain covers for sure. last oil change they noted there was some seepage, so i had them re torque the bolts. this seem to stop it. it was dry all fall, now i have a puddle. sorry for the confusion. i also do not have the lower cover on the car.
