THIS!!!

I've raced with the guys throughout the region. Great crew, great cars and absolutely squared away.

Yes, I'm sure ina spends the time to re-spec them somehow in order to make them worse.

As for your statement that INA is "notorious for bad lifters", where is your evidence of that?

Not trying to bash INA and sorry if I offended you, but the fact that these lifters must frequently be replaced and often fail within 10,000 miles is inescapable:

1. Many fail within 10,000 miles or less - https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...et-lifter.html

2. The thread I was referring to regarding possible re-spec sans quality controls - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...messing-2.html

3. Top Gun from Rennlist noting it's not uncommon to get a bad one (Quadcammer, you're in this thread) - https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...che-brand.html

I did speak with Courtney Truck and also with Jeppeson Imports. Both guys seemed knowledgeable and helpful. It's difficult for me as I live 4 hours north of the twin cities so it's not easy to swing the car buy the shops to have them look at it. They really need to put their hands on the car to know more than a general cost estimate. The shop I'm considering is Auto Edge. I've dealt with them in the past and was always happy. They are higher than the other guys, but not a lot. $7k was tossed around but nobody will commit until they have the car. I guess I had already made up my mind prior to asking the question. lol I do appreciate feed back and info as I understand more now of what's involved and costs.

Wanted to add as well that the estimate reads $7300 and not $7800. My bad. I thought I heard 78 on the phone.

Forgot to ask, my car is a 95 with 70k miles, is it crazy not to be doing a clutch? I don't have records on the current clutch but it feels great and no slippage.

I'm doing my own top end rebuild and the replacement parts and machine work are right around $10K. It really depends what you expect them to do with the "while you're in there" type work. The clutch being a prime example, once they get the engine out, you'll be staring at the flywheel and clutch, very easy to replace, less than an hours of work but probably $2K worth of parts.

Default AutoEdge

For what it is worth, I have 2 993s and nobody touches them but AutoEdge. I love the guys and have gone there for over a decade. Great guys, highly reliable and they do great work. They've been Porsche guys forever.

Courtney Truck did a PPI on my friends 993 he sold and warned the buyer not to buy it because of a "winding" sound when slowing from high speeds that could be an expensive fix. What they heard was the spoiler going down. Enough said.

Jeppesen Imports did the PPI on my C4S and all of the required work. I talked to the owner Joe, and we coordinated everything all over the phone. The car was in Minnesota and I live in Rhode Island. I was able to buy my own parts and have them sent right to his shop. I would defintiely trust them. They did nice work.

Why do you need top end at 70k?

I'm at 78k miles with original clutch.

I'm sorry, but 3 threads as old as 2007, don't make a rampant issue. I'd not say that there is any evidence that your statement: " fact that these lifters must frequently be replaced and often fail within 10,000 miles is inescapable", is true. I'd say many here have done this task, using Ina lifters.

I'm not one to cut corners. I spent north of $3500 in parts to do my clutch and other "while in there" stuff when I pulled my engine about a year ago. Did lots that some wouldn't do. So, it's not a matter of cutting corners.

Bad oil check valve-could be fatal
Bad lifter-nuisance (based on long shot of it happening)

+1 to that. I've got 125k and just had a LWFW & RS clutch installed (it's first clutch replacement). It pulls like a freight train and no smoke at start-up. I've heard of our cars going 200k+ before needing any top end work.

After two services at CTS, I am ready to drive clear across town and use AutoEdge going forward.

Also curious. Sometimes it seems like people do this when not necessary but this is just my worthless $.02.

My car has 115k on the clock and barely burns any oil- I haven't topped off between my annual oil service in 10 years so I'm not expecting a top end anytime soon. Pulls like new and rips around the track. Good girl....
