Default Distributor Rebuild

New 993 owner with questions for the group:

I have no reason to think my distributor needs a rebuild, however I would like to avoid the belt snapping. The car has 51K miles on it.

- Generally, when should you have a rebuild done? Miles/Age
- It sounds like the rebuild consists of bearings and the belt?
- Generally, how much will a rebuild cost if I have someone else do it?
- Any recommendations for this service? Any locally in SoCal?

Thanks!

I replaced the belt in my dual distributor at 45K miles and 16 years as preventative maintenance. Some owners are still running with the original at over 120K miles.

I doubt your bearings need replacement unless a lot of water somehow made it into your distributor.

Belt and drive pin, about $15. The rest is all labor. Someone was doing them for $175. $160 is a lot for labor and I doubt they went into a lot of detail.

Mark Cohen did mine. $175 plus shipping. He's out of Goergia. I have his number somewhere if you need it. You will have to pull both dizz's and buy new caps and rotors. Had 50,000 miles on mine. Mark is great to deal with and fast. Thank, mark
