993 2wd Conversion and CAE Shifter
Here's something that you might consider if you decide to convert your c4 to 2wd. Instead of buying the conversion kit that will run you about $600, welding, time and effort and don't forget the short shift kit with golden rod $400 you might think about throwing few more $$$ and get the CAE shifter which is plug and play installation. Yes it will work on your C4 after removing the front wheel drive shaft. Here're some pics. Mark

All this was removed, the front axles wheel hubs were removed off the axles and reinstalled so your ABS will work and the bearing stay covered (no need to buy $250 shake proof washer part number 99334115501)

Benefits: light weight system, short shift , plug and play (10min to install) , shift **** is closer to the steering wheel, revers gear is locked by a pin (no accidental shifting into revers when going to first). I'm on the east coast so car is sitting in the garage for now. I can't comment on shifting during a drive, but it feels great in my garage lol. Plenty of YouTube videos. Cheers M

Question .... how did you liberate the outer half shaft splined stub from the CV? ---- did you cut the cage with an acetylene torch? - or is there an easier way. Anyway, the efficient way to retain the ABS ring & maintain the bearing pre load!
[ I had (briefly) contemplated doing the same with spare front axles when believing the front diff was dying - turned out to be a torque tube carrier bearing, so swapped in a spare TT & maintained AWD]

When you take off the rubber boot and clean up all the grease you will see a retaining ring that needs to be opened and the shaft hammered out (very tricky and not easy if you're doing it by yourself). Parts could be replaced, so I just cut the ball bearing cage in few spots and the axle came loose . Cheers M
