Quick street tire confirmation
Posting here with my 993 brethren, I know many of you have older/other performance cars as well, and I value your opinions.
I am buying a set tires for a new-to-me 86 3.2 - unlike the 993, I am not looking for the last ounce of performance.
The 86 will be strictly street duty, some long trips, no track. In that use, will value quiet, comfort, good wear, wet handling, with good performance for spirited street driving.
Leaning to the Conti Extreme Contact DW, available in 205/225 stock sizes $429 shipped for a set.
Thoughts?
I am OK with less performance than the Dunlop Star Spec and RE-11 alternatives (which I have enjoyed on the 993, but for a different purpose).
Best,
Matt

You didn't say wether they're 17's or not. I am on my 3rd set of Hankooks (street) V12's and have been very happy with their handling and wear. Actually did pretty good in pouring rain at Laguna Seca a few yaers ago. They have some 17's in the size ur looking for.

Yes, sorry, they're 16's. The Hankooks would indeed be a great choice for 17's.
Basically, looking for their (or Sumi III) counterpart in 16 inch narrow sizes.
Cheers

The Sumitomo tires are a great choice for what you are looking for. A good friend of mine recommend them and glad to have given them a try.
I have the all seasons on the E46 touring and have the HTR III on the 993. Plenty of stick and both versions handle great.
Also have the Hankooks on another car and they are really quiet and make the car ride well.
I will be putting the Conti DWS on the Cayenne when the time comes as that appears to be the best choice.

I think you answered your own question in your post...
Fortunately, there is more to choose from than a few years ago...A good all season performance tire, such as the ones below. I think these Conti's would be a good bet, considering your location, and if you drive the car year round...From Tirerack.com
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e&autoModClar=
ExtremeContact DWS (Ultra High Performance All-Season)
Set of 4: $446.00
You want all-season versatility (including light snow traction) and are willing to trade some dry and wet traction and handling to get it.
Branded with the M+S symbol, these ultra low profile tires are designed to provide year-round traction (even in light snow) through tread designs and compounds that remain more flexible in the cold weather to help blend all-season traction with very good handling and high-speed capabilities.

This will just be for spring through fall on a second car, so I don't even need to consider the all-season version. The Michelin Pilot A/S is likewise an all-season, not a summer tire.
The DW does seem to get really good reviews, and the price is really good to boot - the $429 from Discount Tire is shipping included.
Funny, you get used to higher costs on the 993 - I am looking forward to some of these lower running costs on the 3.2!
This purple mutt is the culprit...

Tire Rack has done a number of tests on the tire:
