After the initial Dyno runs it became apparent that the Bosch Injectors were just not up to task of fueling the Beast. So at the recommendation of my Tuner at RCTS, I purchased a set of Injector Dynamics ID1000 Injectors..

Stock 993 Injectors flow - 230 cc/min @ 43.5psi
Bosch Injectors flow - 310 cc/min at 43.5psi
ID1000 flow - 1015 cc/min at 43.5psi,

In our fuel systems the fuel pressure is 3.8bar or 55psi the flow rates then jumps to @ 55psi:

993 Stock - 260 cc/min
Bosch "Red Devils" - 348 cc/min
ID1000 - 1140 cc/min.

Of course when I first looked at the numbers i was thinking that these were overkill, and really they are. Using simple 'Steven Math" which is neither accurate or based in any fact, I thought, if stock injectors can support 300hp, then injectors that are 4.4 times bigger then the potential of these new injectors is somewhere around 1300 hp.... I think I will be good for fuel.

The other major benefit of these injectors was the control, they are a modern style multi point injector, their control is incredible. At idle the injectors are at less that 5 % duty cycle. They are so easy to control, my tuner put a set in a Stock 1.6 l Honda, adjusted the ecu for dwell and dead times and it idled and ran perfectly. (1 single injector can actually run the Honda engine no problems )

Injector Dynamics also provides all the Dwell and dead time information so ECU setup is a breeze...

The injectors come with caps suited for the vehicle they are going in. Mine are the Purple ones.... I asked If i could get them anodized red, but no chance

Of Course nothing is ever simple as plug and play. The Injector plugs on 993's are whats called EV-1 and the ID1000 are USCAR. There are adapter pig tails available, however this is just not the right way to do the job. So one by one I removed the pins from the wiring harness plugs.

Old plug removed

New USCAR wiring plugs and crimp tool.

New black USCAR plug with an old EV-1 Plug in the back ground. Not so easy to return to Stock

So for the OP or anyone else. Assuming one just dropped their car off at an engine builder, what's a build like this cost?

You're probably looking at 50K for someone to build what's in Trophy's car.

10k for heads
16K for ECU, wiring, injection, test/tune
6K for headers and 997 GT3 muffler
3.8 P&C 7K plus labor to modify your case
GT3 crank, oil pump, rods, bearings are expensive

Paddy has it about right overall, There is a tone of time in this build, especially in the blueprinting etc, probably 8 to 10 hours in just balancing the piston, rods, rings and wrist pins. Then similar in matching the bearings for the crank and big ends. IF you are paing $120 to $150 an hour it adds up fast...

The other expense that we always forget about is shipping of parts etc. I probably ended up spending $2k on shipping bits and pieces back and forth from machine shops etc...

THe GT3 Parts are especially expensive, I thankfully got a few deals, however the Crank and oil pump are over $3k, the rods at the time were over $700 each.. Even the silly rod bolts were expensive.

The little things also add up, solid rockers over $1k, Cams $1k, Extra machining $2k, Head Studs $750, gaskets, consumables $1k... it all adds up fast.

HEy Neighbour... Any time you are in cow town look me up! Thanks, for the props, it was an incredible journey, i learned an incredible amount doing the build!!

Super impressed with the ID1000's, the low Duty Cycle control is just incredible, even down at below 5% they are perfect. I also know I will never be lean because the injectors won't keep up, huge peace of mind...My engine loves fuel at high load, high RPM and these puppies are fantastic.

Wow. So much envy at the talent and time and patience that went into this build. Personally - lacking in all 3 areas most of the time... what a beauty. This build is just awesome. Really cool stuff

Did I miss more about the valved exhaust somewhere in the thread or article? It operates like the "sport exhaust" on the newer 911s, ie valves open and close with a button?
