I'm flying to Dayton tomorrow through Saturday, staying near Wright Pat, other than the AF Museum, any other sites to catch, also, good eats?

Really not much to offer out by the base. Pine Club or Oakwood Club for steaks, Jay's for seafood. Also a place called Tank's on Wayne Ave is a big University of Dayton hangout with great burgers and grilled cheese.....classic college beer joint.

Air Force Museum will take ALL your time....fantastic place!

Email me at plohmeyer@woh.rr.com and let's see about a beer or two!

Dan is correct, the Air Force Museum will take quite awhile to get through. If you are even vaguely interested in history or military, it's worth every minute.

I was passing through on my way to Oshkosh and spent a few hours there.

I could easily spend a week there going through it in detail.

I visited the AF museum years ago when I was deployed to WP with a flight crew. Went with the flight engineer, truly an interesting experience, but this trip my wife will be with me, and she probably couldn't handle a whole day of planes. Maybe a few hours, anything else that would interest women?

If going to the Air Force Museum make sure to visit the annex section where they have experimental and Presidential aircraft, you can walk through the actual Air Force One plane that brought Kennedy back from Texas and Johnson was sworn in on. Bockscar is there (B29 that dropped Fat Man on Nagasaki) along with countless other displays that detail pivotal moments in history.

If looking to keep the Mrs. happy you could drive south down I-75 about 30 minutes to the outlet malls or IKEA.

Without knowing what she likes that's a challenge to answer. If she likes art and crafts stuff, go stroll in Yellow Springs and have lunch at The Winds (get a reservation though) or Sunrise Café. Also shops on 5th street in Dayton in the Oregon district (restaurants too). If it's more contempo shopping, try The Greene (which has a great array of places to eat). If it's history, try Dayton History........lots of displays and a nice café there too, or maybe the Dayton Art Institute?

You could drive about 20 minutes south to Waynesville. Tons of antique shops if your wife is into that. They call it the Antique Capital of the Midwest.

Thanks for the great ideas.

She does like museums and art stuff, not really a shopper, beleive it or not, so Oregon District , Yellow Springs and maybe antique browsing sounds great.
She is a car gal, so Packard museum sounds great too.
Dan, thanks for the beer invite, don't think I'll have time this trip, but thanks and happy holidays.

Man is it ever COLD here!

The owner passed away over a year ago - not sure it will ever be opened to the public again, but not sure.

Yep, I'm aware. I met John several times touring the place.

I believe the family is keeping the collection intact.....and the place is still available for events, I believe.
