285/30/18 on a 11" wide rim is way stretched!
It is not necessarily a bad thing though. On a very low car with aggressive offset wheels and a lot of camber it will look very very good. Rich Pughs car is a nice example but there are even more aggressive setups out there.
On the other hand, if your 993 is not lowered the stretched tire will look silly (my opinion).
I had 295/30/18's on my 993 while I was working on widening the body. The proportions were not right so I switched to 315/30/18 which looked very nice.
It is not only the stretch but also the profile will be much smaller too so the tire will look smaller.

Off Topic -- Wow. Those are special http://en.indendesign.com/wheels They're probably not available here in the United States, sadly. You must have an S-model 993, with a 50-mm ET at the rear axle?

so refreshing this old post to ask a similar question.
I've got a 993C2 NB (lowered) with classic 18" turbo twists (265 in the back and 225 in the front).
I was planning, when buying new tyres to move to 285 in the back but I have the opportunity to buy a full set of wheels (rims and tires) at a really good price and condition.
RIMS: 996 Turbo (hollow?) twists Rear would be:
Tires: Michelin pilot sport
Rear: 18x11 ET45(295)
Front: 18x8 ET50 (225)
Although the price is very good I don't want to have issues.
Am I running any risk with this set of tires? especially inside the fender....

I like your "massaging fenders".
Anyways it's what I was expecting to hear...... unfortunately.
It's a really good deal but I risk to spend more than what I'd save...honestly don't want to incur in issues while driving and have enough knowledge on alignment and may not find somebody able to do it where I am...
such a shame!

I am running 285s on a 10" rim, on my 1995 c2. In order to find tires that would clear my fenders, i used the tire "specs" on the tire rack website.
I looked at the "section width" and "thread width" to get an idea of how much tire stretch to expect.
285 tires are not all equal, there are significant differences.
As far as an 18x11 ET45 rim in the rear, with 295s: good luck to you!

You should look at tire specs and see what section width is. I like to keep it close to +1/2” to rim width on a street car. I shoot for equal on track cars. When the section width gets wider than rim width steering response suffers and the tire takes a weird set. The overall feeling is vague. Ride quality tends to improve though. When a tire is stretched (to a point) steering response improves and car sets much better in corners. On my track car I run a 245 on 10” wheel. The prior wheel was a 9” and the difference at speed was night and day. Breakaway at the limit became much more predictable with the 10” wheels.
On the Porsche I run PS2 235 on 9” front and 315 on 12” rear. The steering response is razor sharp and the car transitions very nicely in the sweepers.

I'm running 285/30/19s on narrow body lobster claws. I just replaced worn-out ContiSportContacts with brand new Conti ExtremeContacts DW and absolutely love the new tires. So that's two types of tires that fit well. My KWs are set fairly low and I never rub on the chassis or fender.
