Default 993 production numbers and options by type by year

I have seen aggregate numbers by type for all years but not for each model year. Is there a source for this information ? Is there also information about options by year ?
I am interested in a C 2 Cpe and have read that the 95 year has OBD 1 which some see as a plus. I see many cabs advertised but few C 2. Condition and options are the determining factor for me. My SC which I have owned since 84, has been well maintained has 109 K and runs great. My guess is that a well cared for example with 40 to 80 k will make sense for me. Any suggestions on how and where to find it ?

The negative on the 95 is they do not handle RS flywheels very well, many exhibiting stalling ( The RS flywheel is one of the best upgrades you can do if you need a clutch). They also do not have as much low-end torque as the 96+'s due to the lack of a Varioram.

Every model has +'s and -'s for sure.

There is not a definitive source of statistics on options, colors, etc. There is information out there, but also different sources of the same info can show differences, and you got to wonder if even the factory knows exactly what they produced....

Cheers,

Mike

Sidenote...a good book to get while you're shopping/getting familiar with 993s is: "Porsche 993, The Essential Companion" by Adrian Streather. Lots of indepth info about the cars, even a very comprehensive buyer's guide; what to look for, what to ask, etc., etc....

Good luck with your search!

Default 993 current thoughts and 996/997.2 Turbo input

Thanks for the input. Owning a 1978 SC, a 2000 Boxster S and having the opportunity to spend a fair amount of seat time in a friend's 1996 993 C2 since making my original post I have reached the conclusion that the 993 is for the most part too close to the SC in style, especially the interior, and in terms of performance the Boxster S is clearly my preference. The 993 prices are extraordinary, almost 100k for a C2S. This is of course only my opinion.

I am now focused on Turbos, 996 thru 997.2. I read the classifieds, Rennlist and Excellence daily. I see some very low mile 996s on Excellence and some later models on Rennlist. One in particular is on offer from Dick Barbour in Oakland GA. Any experience with these folks ?

Owners of 95's will beg to differ with Mike J and will probably chime in.

My 95 with Rennsport chip and RS cams has no problems or lacks torque vis a vis my buddies 97.

My old 95 with Rennsport chip and rs flywheel still had idle/stall issues. Now my 97 with rs flywheel idles perfect and I don't have to look at a baskethandle. I do have variorum and more hp. I did have to spend a few hours an clean the SAI ports but that isn't really a big deal to me. Like many have said before, they both have their advantages and shortcomings. Condition is more important that year IMHO. Now if you want a WB, you only have one option.

The lack of Vram (power diff) can easily be negated with a chip from Rennsport Systems.

What if you properly chip a Vram?

Then we add headers!

But, the '95 is easiest to tune via a remapped chip. 96 is Vram, not so easy.
