Very sad... I killed my 993 yesterday
Some bad news -- was driving south on 405 yesterday near Bellevue and accelerating (too hard) into the carpool lane and lost the rear of the car and ended up with the front into the concrete median.
I had my 11yr old son in the car, was not fully engaged in driving as we were discussing school, soccer, etc. There was a compression due to an overpass then a small bit of water and before I could move the wheel more than a few inches we were into the wall. Like all accidents, I think a combination of factors were involved, but the simple recap is to I was accelerating too hard for the wet conditions.
Both of us are fine (which I have been repeatedly told is important) but the car is dead. Hit was mostly to the front left but the driver door is pushed all the way back and the sunroof is at a small tilt, so its not going to be repaired.
The current plan is to buy back the car and take everything out (engine has <2k miles since the rebuild) that is functional. Then look for a donor car that has had an engine fire or such and try to put everything back together (although my timetable is very uncertain).
So keep safe everyone!

Horrible news. Wonderful news that both of you are (physically) fine. I know this isn't much help, but your son will have this (and the pending rebuild) as a great memory as to what can happen, how you dealt with it and how much work both of you will put into building another great car.

I am sorry to hear of your accident; but more importantly, you and your son are OK!
Maybe there is some good to come of this loss...
Were you insured, and if so what kind of policy and with who? Most of us would be interested in what an insurance co will pay for a total loss of a 993, considering todays market.
Year, model (NB/WB), type of your 993 (cab, coupe, targa), NA or turbo?
Again, thank goodness you two are alright!

Sorry.
Glad you and Jr are A-OK.
Present your recent rebuild receipts to your insurance company and negotiate a fair total loss settlement.
Don't muck around with the salvage. Go buy a new 993 replacement and be back on the road ASAP.

Wow- sorry to hear, but you have a good plan! There's a small fortune in parts in the car I am sure, that will help others out here and will offset your expenses to replace and repair. Good luck. Sounds like you'll need to start a "rebuilding" thread with TONS of pictures very soon!!!!
