Thankfully you and your son are fine. The car is a hunk of metal that can be replaced.

Sorry to hear about your car! Fortunately, you and your son are alright. It is good to how tough these cars are.

Seriously, I would have to consider a 997 or a 991 if something happened to my 993.

Besides all the "glad you're ok", here's maybe your new start:

Want to convert to a cab?
Good luck,
Ed

Reiner,

I'm very sorry to hear this, however you & your son's health are paramount. Cars can be replaced.

Good advice here about hiring an appraiser; you really need one to get true market value for your car otherwise your insurance carrier will low-ball you unless you had agreed value in your policy. Trust me, they play hard ball.

Good luck on the search for the replacement!!

Adding to the chorus, you and you son are alright, that is the important thing, the rest is just stuff.

Thanks for sharing, it isn't everyone who would do so. First the INS challenge, then move on to a new project, hopefully another 993. Parting out vs keeping & donor car search may be another alternative, then find a new 993 or other Porsche to build on.

405 carpool lane is the worst! I got rear ended in my r32 there. Glad you are OK!

As others have said, buy another 993 that is not salvage if you can! Maybe you can find one that just has a blown motor vs a fire/salvage car.

Its heartbreaking when this happens to your car. Glad you are both ok, that really is the most important part.

We've had a few major downpours in the last week. That area of 405 has some uneven pavement that collects water. Hope it all turns out well.

Thanks for sharing and be safe! Like you said, take the car's heart out and find a donor body. Can't do that with humans, so it's great to hear you and your son are fine. Life is good

The good news is that you are writing about this and alive.

The other good news is that the value of my car just went up a bit (less cars left out there).

The bad news is ... the obvious. SO sorry for your loss. We LOVE these cars. They're like members of our families, albeit metal, vinyl, leather and rubber members.

really? that's what comes to your mind when somebody crashes their 993? Why don't you sell your car to him since you need to get an automatic anyways.
