If you had to sell your 993 to get an automatic would you get a 98 C2S or a 07 Turbo?

Default If you had to sell your 993 to get an automatic would you get a 98 C2S or a 07 Turbo?

Just curious. Left knee has been pretty bad lately, painful to clutch, though it comes and goes. Have been doing therapy but if it doesn't get better in the next year or 2, would consider selling my car and getting an automatic.

If this was YOU (not me), and you needed an automatic because shifting had become painful to your aging body, would you consider this a tough decision? I was thinking that a nice, lower mileage (45k-75K mi) 97 or 98 C2S Tip would cost about $55-65k for a great condition car. Here's 1 $55k 97 C2S Tip now available for instance:

vs. a 10 years newer 2007 Turbo for $65k:

So keep in mind you can't drive a 6 speed any longer due to knee pain (for this exercise, the doctors did everything they can do and you're stuck driving an automatic now). Would you stay with the 993 in the $55-65K range or go with the 2007 997 Turbo for that same approximate $65k?

That would mean you'd have to make a decision between staying with with the 993 air cooled group of folks here... or switch to the non-air cooled 997 Turbo forum group of people instead. Yeah, you could of course check in with the 993 folks from time or time or daily even, but in reality, you'd be a water cooled guy now instead (or gal). Hmmm, that would be a big change.

Steve

At $65k the 2007 997 Turbo is a good deal for me (affordable after selling my 993). Wouldn't want to pay more than $65k or so. The 2010 model PDK's would be out of my reach if I made a move in the next 12 months. But... in 3 years, the 2010's would no longer likely cost the $88k they cost now and my C4S would be worth about the same as it does now. In 3 years I imagine the 2010's with PDK would be around the $65k price point I could handle at my higher end.

And no, I have no plans to sell my 993 any time soon! NOT A POTENTIAL SELLING MY CAR THREAD, I swear.

great excuse to find a use for a 993 tip which should be had for a fair dollars nowadays compared to manuals.

if going 997, skip the tip and go straight to a PDK example.

If daily driving go for latest greatest. If using for odd days and weekends for mostly sport, 993!

I would get PDK Cayman S or 2010 GTS
Out of choices above I would go for turbo. I've never driven auto 993, but given it's not a fast car, automatic must only exaggerate its lack of power.
If it's just a weekend cruiser than 993 auto is a great proposition.

get the turbo. heck, buy my turbo. seriously a 4 speed auto is no fun. if you can swing it, keep your 6 speed 993 and get a 997.1 turbo. great value. lovely interior. and sexy as your 993 wide body. life's too short to count pennies. my heart skips a beat when i see the fat **** of the 997tt in the garage. then i nearly have a heart attack when i look at the c2s aero. life is good.

Between the two I will go with a 997 tip. For me with your budget and auto is a must I will go for a Cayman R PDK or a Boxster Spyder PDK.

having driven (and owning) both a 993 tip and a manual. A tip is not any less fun than her manual sister. There are times when an automatic is really more appropriate. I have yet to drive a 997 turbo but I have driven a 997 before. What the 993 tip lacks in terms of power and performance, she makes up for it more than she lacks with her character and personality. I don't know your driving style but I personally think that the performance that the 993 tip has to offer is more than enough out on public road anyway. you have a 993 c4s so you know all the upside that you get with a 993 including all the heads you turn when drive down the street, you certainly won't be getting that in a 997tt , or at least not even a glance from me ( 997 are waaay too common out here in socal). 997tt will continue to drop value meanwhile you know very well that 993 will hold well, even for a tip ( especially when my generation, even if we are interested in the looks of the 993, most of us don't know how to drive a manual so there will be demand of tips i think)

i've been trying to go take a look at that arena red c2s over the summer but never got to it . looks quite clean though

Would have to sell my car to buy another. Can't afford to keep both.

I have to agree with this. A modern Cayman R (or Boxster Spyder) with PDK.

I would even look at and drive a 981 Cayman S or GTS with PDK.

Either way, I would get a modern PDK. They are really good.

I appreciate this advice though I was never visually drawn to the Cayman in any form or year nor would I ever own a Boxster (not a fan of convertibles). I guess that leaves me with the PDK 997 Turbo (2010) which would be many years away from affording.

I disagree with almost every word in your post.

The 997TT is so much more car for the money. Hamstringing a 993 with a 4 speed auto sucks the life out of it, while the 997TT has enough torque that gear changes are almost superfluous anyway.

While I'm a 3 pedal guy until I can no longer do so, I think the 997TT is the better option, especially for Steve

Guess you find the Tip more than adequate and didn't "need" a PDK?

For me, if this is the direction I went, it would then be down to hunting the "perfect color".

The guys on the 997 Turbo board have been saying that at about $65k for a 2007 Turbo, they don't see the values dropping much more anytime soon and that they have leveled off completely. People are scooping them up fast so the market is actually very strong (they wrote).

or Atlas Grey?

Hmmmm.... the quality of my later life problems.
