If you had to sell your 993 to get an automatic would you get a 98 C2S or a 07 Turbo?

it would be the 997 for me. Especially as a daily driver. More modern, creature comforts, etc, etc.

'07 TT Tip
Terry's car is quite beautiful and is a great performer. We have had many opportunities to do "boost checks" on on-ramps to get our cars to safe freeway merging speeds (use your imagination), and his car (sport chrono-equipped) and Rufus (490+hp) are pretty much dead nuts even. I think he has added a Europipe exhaust, and it sounds great also. However, despite what the guys on the 997TT board are saying, depreciation will not be your friend.

Yes. Mine's a DD, no track, and Tip just fine in Sport mode for occasional canyon carving. Drove a PDK some, mostly service loaners from dealer. Nice, but not a deal breaker.

Also, would have chosen a '09 with better Nav, but first hip was done for and had cash burning a hole in my pocket. I don't regret the Tip, and you could save a fair amount going Tip.

Can you shift a 997 tip manually, the way it's done in a 993?

Steve - I know someone who has a white 993 FS at the right price.

And traffic around these parts have gotten ridiculous.

If your knee(s) are worn out bone-on-bone arthritis like mine were, I suggest bite the bullet and get TKR.
Not to jack the thread but I had been fighting mine since my early 60's and finally got them done last year...one in Feb the other in Oct.
In both cases I was driving my '95 13 days after surgery.
Well worth the few weeks of inconvenience.
PM me if you like.

How much more depreciation though? A 10% depreciation is just $6.5k, bringing down the value from $65 to $58.5k. What other Porsche turbo would you buy for $65k assuming it is in great condition? A sorted well-maintained 996 turbo? Can't touch any of the 997.2 turbos for that money yet. What about a 930 turbo? Oh, right, they are now approaching six-digits. 935s are $200k+. The Porsche turbo is arguably among the most famous and hallowed of all sports cars. For $60k, the 997 turbo is a lot of car for the money.

Adding in sales tax, owning a new 991 turbo s for a year may cost more than a higher mileage 997 turbo. http://www.intellichoice.com/1-12-20...ownership.html

Yes, meant to say shift in manual as well as Sport mode.

However, when doing on ramp boost checks with Steve, the transmission does it better in auto than I can in manual mode. Manual mode is nice for the canyons, though.

Terry what I meant is that in the 993 you can actually row the shift lever back and forth....

My doc told me that I am NOT a candidate for knew replacement yet. But I wonder why I still experience this crappy knee pain then?!? He keeps saying more physical therapy but it doesn't help at all. It's dealable for now. In a few years if it doesn't get better - Houston - we'll have a problem.

You know what I need to do? I need to drive me another 997 Turbo Tip but without the sport seats this time. I HATED the too-tight sport seats. No, I'm not fat, but they still felt scarily restrictive to the point of me feeling like I was suffocating in them.

Same effect with the buttons for the 997 Tip. Up or down one gear at a time. Though I believe it is possible to downshift two gears if you press twice. Sport mode delays the up shifts some.

Have to be careful of over rev when down shifting in manual.

Adaptive sports have an adjustable side bolster as well as lumbar. I get mine just right and I am good for 10 hours a day of driving.

Good to know... I'll try them again and spend A LOT of time trying to get them right.

Also, as far as Tip and PDK (whatever that is), I know me. I know that I'll keep that puppy in FULLY AUTOMATIC MODE 99.9% of the time unless I'm in the Shenandoah Mountains. Lazy is my middle name.

Steve,
I know this isn't the homework assignment, as medical options were supposed to be exhausted, but
have you explored all options with an orthopod? My wife has had multiple knee surgeries for everything from ACL replacement to meniscus repair (both knees) with great success.

living in pain or discomfort is no way to go through life, middle or later stages.

with regards to the original question, 997 Turbo would be my choice.

Don't think the car will let you exceed the redline. You can request it all you want the tranny just won't do it.

That's the way it works in basically any automatic

i had a 997 tt albeit mine was manual. for create comforts and technology get the 997 with pdk. it's a beast, but very tamable. the auto trans in a 993 doesn't compare to the pdk in a 997.

Quick Reply: If you had to sell your 993 to get an automatic would you get a 98 C2S or a 07 Turbo?
