Arctic Silver versus Polar Silver

Arctic Silver versus Polar Silver
I wanted to post a thread showing the two side-by-side.
97 Arctic Silver (92T/92U) C2 in foreground has more grey.
96 Polar Silver (92M) Targa in background has more blue.
Hopefully these pics show properly depending on light.

Anyone else think it's a bit dumb of Porsche to name two silvers after (essentially) synonyms of each other?? I have Polar but I always have a hard time remembering because arctic and polar mean virtually the same thing? How about Polar silver and titanium silver or something?
Ah well, I guess there's no point to this rant, it's not like they're going to change the names...

I'll tell you something I learned about Polar when I went to get a spray bomb made up recently. It has added black 0.52%, blue 1.69%, and violet 0.20%. There are two other components in my can at 19.69%, and 77.89% I think the silver is the 19.69% and the other is the propellant. In my spray bomb, the violet would be less than a drop, and my supplier can not add less than a drop, so the violet was not added at all.
Also, the computer warned them that Polar was the fastest colour ever made, so to exercise extreme caution when mixing it.
Honestly, I like both colours. I saw Arctic one evening on a parked 993 and the tone it took on in the fading light was breathtaking, other light conditions the blue/violet in the Polar is more interesting to me than the more monotone Arctic.

Having moved from an Arctic Silver Boxster to a Polar Silver 993, I like both colors so long as the interior is red...
I agree with you Tony that the Polar silver color is a bit more unusual (in the world of silver colored cars) and a bit more sophisticated looking.

Arctic silver can be driven by polar bears only. Polar silver can be driven by polar bears as well as penguins, thus giving Porsche much wider customer base.
BTW, I find is hilarious that Tony owns two silver cars.
