Is this a replica?
I'm not trying to start any serious conversation or controversy but someone forwarded me this and I have to wonder if it's really a Porsche vs. replica. I'm asking you revered experts.
thanks

Those are certainly non-factory "California-style" fender flares. My guess is it's a fiberglass replica. These speedsters are worth too much in their original configuration with period-correct wheels, I can hardly imagine someone with enough money to buy one would install those craptastic wheels. So either the owner is clueless and has way too much money and no taste, or it's a replica. My money is on the latter.

Brian,
If you haven't seen the 356 Forum's "REPLICA!!!!!!!!!! wide body questions, thanks" thread, check there for photos of that Speedster & more info I've posted.
Hope it helps!

Many years ago, 1960s, a company called FiberFab made something called the Avenger GT15 that looked very much like a Ford GT-40 and that came with a tube steel frame. It was really light and so performance was OK with a late 60s VW 'flatpack' engine like out of a square back in it. If I had a spare M28/11 engine and G28/08 trans laying around, that might be a fin Kit Car to build up. A 1900 Lb car with a 928 engine in it?? that's all kinds of snarly!

Looks like the results of a Cobra kit car that had mated with a Speedster replica...Its a Cobster!

Classic Motor Carriages in Miami, made a gel coat fiberglass "Speedster C" kit...with extra gauge set, and BBS look wheels, the whole kit was $8500 in 1985 money. On a VW Super Beetle chassis, with a little engine massaging... you could scare the **** outta yourself. I butchered one together in 85, sold it shortly after the build. Got LOTS of attention with it, but wasn't my cup of tea. Looked a lot like the picture.
