Smile ryguy993…how about...

…since your avatar shows a 993 with a fixed tail, install a 993 Turbo snorkel. This easiest of mods, allows the engine to pull incoming air from the air intake grill.

Drilling the holes, or buying a sound package air intake cover, will give you a nice air induction sound when you are full on the gas. This does not occur on the snorkel.

I installed one of these snorkels on my 993, and I can confirm that it doesn't alter the intake/motor sound. Hard to say if it helps the cooling much either, but I figured since I've got the turbo wing and there was a cheap snorkel for sale locally, why not try it.

I have one of these. Just drill some holes in the side of your air box and save $120.
I guess you could paint the inlet on your box silver if you really wanted to.

Touche', Ed. I've only gotten one serious bite at this point. And after driving the car for the past 3 days, I have to say I'm happy.

I used a 1" hole saw bit as opposed to a forstner. Got it started and held shy of going thru, then went from inside so it didn't tear out as it perforated the inside. Maybe if you used a block of wood on inside as support it'd be easier. Found the flexing to be the time consumer. Backing it with a block might help to punch them thru easier.

There was a template making the rounds a few months ago. I cant remember who produced the actual piece but it was identical to the factory pattern and will save you the $120 unless you just have to have the chromed inlet....

The PlastiChrome attachment on the OEM Motorsound air box cover was specifically and meticulously engineered to increase airflow through the intake system. Better flow equals more HP.

Is it really made out of plastic?
