Sunroof gear contamination
I'm investigating why my sunroof is intermittent. To start the track is very sticky. I was able the beat on the motor & track and get roof open and closed once. I took off the motor drive gear housing and found something that looks like felt fibers. Does anybody know where this came from?

Thanks lopro but the gear is enclosed in the housing and is not exposed to the roof material. Not shown is the cable gears - they are also filled with the felt. I suspect there was a felt pad to retain oil that was ingested.

Eichlerman, My experience is that if the weather bead around the roof panel is not properly placed or the roof panel is not adjusted properly one will experience intermittent sticking. The debris you see in the picture above is small potatoes and probably not related to your issue. Although the problem is probably something simple related to fit or track lubrication.

My first attempt at the sunroof seal was 1-2mm too low, and resulted in this behavior. The motor and track were fine, it was just slowed by the seal and refused to close all the way unless I pushed from below. The 2nd attempt put the seal even with the line of the roof and now opens/closes without issues.
