Default Repurposing rear wiper / mirror switches for bluetooth, etc.

Hi,

In this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...-headunit.html I am considering creating a system wherein one can "switch" the CD changer that the CR-220 head unit sees in order to switch between the real CD changer and a Solisto device. The solisto device is a device that emulates a CD changer and allows one to input any aux input (like aftermarket bluetooth device or USB drive or iPod) with Headunit control.

Anyways, in order to do this "Switch", I would need an actual switch on the the center console area. Since my 993 does not have a rear wiper, I would like to utilize that switch blank to fit an actual porsche switch to do so ----- and repaint / re-color that switch with a white bluetooth logo on a black background. I have a few questions about porsche switches that I would like to ask if anyone would care to answer. I will post my three questions in three successive posts using the "attach picture" function.

MIRROR SWITCH - 944

- Is this a double pole - double throw switch?
- Position 0 connects 2&5 and 1&3?
- Position I connects 2&6 and 1&4?
- Does this "944" switch match the look of 993 switches?

Rear Wiper Switch - 951

- Is this a single pole - double throw switch?
- Position 0 connects 2&5 ?
- Position 1 connects 2&6?
- Does this "951" switch match the fit of the 993 switches?

Looks to me like your assessments are correct. Switch #3 appears to be momentary throw (ie closed only when pressed).

Don't have a loose switch handy for comparison, but they look similar to the ones in the 993 console. Clips might be slight different though.

How many conductors do you need to connect for the CDC / solisto swap? For example, if each device requires six wires to run it, it looks to me like you'd need three of the switch #1 and they would all have to be switched simultaneously.

If you have to switch more than 2 conductors, you might want to consider switching using a set of SPDT mini-relays, all run from the same SPST switch, like these:

The Cdc3 changer and solisto both have nine wires. I suppose this means nine spdt relays controlled by one spst switch then. Two of the nine are 12v power and ground so there has to be some current carrying capacity (at least for a changer i suppose). Here is a 7-micro-relay holder.

What a pain ... With 9 conductors in the cable leading to the cd changer/solisto it would be really tedious as well as inelegant space-wise to use 9 relays to switch the devices.

I wonder if it would it be sufficient if I made a Y cable that permanently hooked up both the solisto and the cd changer to the headunit at the same time, but used a switch simply to cut power to one or the other. Anyone know I would test to see if this theory might work without frying something?
