Read through most of that this morning. If someone bought that wreck to grab the motor out of, roughly how many hours would a shop book to remove both engines and reinstall the good one?

I cant put my finger on if the asking price is low or high. Guess it depends what you plan on doing with the wreck.

I'd be worried about the hit the drivetrain took to the left rear. The motor might be worth nothing...
I did make a smart *** post to keep the thread alive though.
The guy could be a marketing evil genius though......

Very entertaining but who adjusts their insurance for what car they are driving? I knew he was a moron right there.

Let's say you do have a dead 996 Turbo. And they ARE out there, sadly. So you're now already screwed. But say the replacement engine is 100% ready to bolt in. The least of your worries at that point is how many hours a shop is going to charge. You want someone who's competent, and charges fairly for his work. Quibbling over even $1K (which might approach 1/3 of the labor charge), I think, would be foolish.

But this is more likely the scenario. Or spun backward. Bought plenty of engines out of wrecks, etc. over the decades. Few end up being what they appear to be on first glance. So you need to pick it up cheap. But in today's world there's seemingly always overeager and underinformed.

(But you guys do know that if similar ever befell mine, I'd do everything reasonably possible to fit the engine in my 4S. The engine as updated from the air cooled is that good.)

Not another Epic For Sale Thread, but what's in the water lately with wrecked Turbos of any generation?

Very entertaining. LoL.

The dude was obviously a very young individual who recently acquired the car and wrecked it shortly thereafter. (driving beyond the posted speed limit or his limit...)

Love the fact that he assumed everybody here on Rennlist are wasp poser elitists with no mechanical knowledge or skill when they tried to tell him the facts.

What is even better is that he felt he was offering a really good deal on a rebuildable car.
His car in good condition was a $40k car. Despite that the tub is fuct, it would eat at least 20k in parts, 10k in paint and the rest in labour. The cost of the repaired car would surpass the value of a non hit car....

He claims to be a decent mechanic, but it shows he has zero knowledge to paint and body.
If he thinks that a DIY'er could do it for less then I guess he assumes everybody has a paint booth, lift ramp and frame straightner in their backyard with no day job.....

Id say it is fair to say he probably wrenches as good as he drives...

With his 40k turbo, his collection of muscle cars most likely consists of project cars sitting out in back of the barn with one substandard common classic roadworthy thanks to a list of crap from Jegs or Summit racing thrown in it...

In all, his turbo is worth his asking if parted out.

$15K as is.

Anybody who is willing to buy it for parts better be ready for the dualing banjos when they get to where the car is located...
bring a trailer...... and two friends...
