Default struts vs coilovers

i am going to update my 993c4 suspension and i am looking at H&R coilovers or Bilstein HD, i drive it hard on mountain roads and want to start tracking but still want to drive it on rallies, are coilovers to stiff for the road or are HD's stiffer. was anyone else ran either of these with opinions i have read manufactures descriptions but would like real life opinions

The questions you both post are very subjective...

A quick search on "suspension" or "suspension upgrades" will give you both a plethroa of feedback. Try it, you'll like it!

Adjustable coilovers are nice for the "adjustable" or subjective portion of each drivers needs or desires.

If you are running shorter springs for lowering such as the M030 or M033, I would get the Bilstein B8 struts for the rear. They supposedly addresses the issue of the loose rear spring (according to Bilstein) and gives you some working range on the threaded adjusters.

This pic of a local's 993 clarifies the above. He has Bilstein HDs.

All 993's have FACTORY coil over's in the front. Really what you should be asking is if you want suspension A, B or C.

Most replacement strut kits for the 993 will be coil over based struts.

H&R coil overs are softer then Bilstein with ROW m030 springs. I will throw in getting Bilstein PSS10's they are coil overs with tender springs (softer ride) and adjustable for stiffness.

Right. (And they ARE a coil spring over a shock in the rear, too.)

I go back to my usual recommendation of just giving Steve Weiner a call.

I have Bilstein HDs on my car and loved them for about 2 weeks, then wished I went the coil over route. Also, I drive my car very hard on the weekends up highway 9 (I am from California) and the Bilstein HDs are stiffer than stock but not what I was looking for (I like to feel every pebble or miniscule bump that I run over). Bilstein HDs are a great kit, but if you drive your car hard, I would go for the H&R coilovers or PSS10s. Everybody has different preferences on how they like their cars to be setup. Just my 2 cents

This is the most important thing when talking about suspension. And, on that note, the best thing you could do is try to sample as many variations in other's cars as possible. There are lots of components and combinations available and finding your personal favourite can take some time.

Too bad we don't live near each other. I would have no problem letting a fellow "Rennlist Member" drive my car in order to decide if the Bilstein HDs are for them. The offer stands until I rip them out and slap on the PSS10s I have sitting in the garage.

I was in the same boat as you, but for some stupid reason I bought some HDs because I told myself that I was daily driving my car so I wouldn't need PSS10s. I ended up buying twice

And if you really want to smoke 9, put in a close ratio transmission, it's another world. One drive in Jordon's car, equipped with a Steve Weiner rebuilt transmission put me over the edge.

And the cost? Would would you pay to be ecstatic every time you go through the gears, especially third and up!!!!

sounds like i need to some more home work on H&R and the different springs available, the roads here see no tax dollars so that is something that i have to think into my decision but high plains raceway is smooth
