Default 1995 CR-1 Aux input

I have been searching for a way to get an iPod/iPhone input for my stock CR-1 system (Hi Fi option). The cassette inputs and broadcast options were not acceptable and I didn't want to lose the functionality of the CD changer. I found this option searching the internet and gave it a try. It works really good so I thought I would share it. The Factory Radio input goes directly into the pre-amp using the FM radio circuit. You switch between the radio and the AUX input simply by plugging into the mini jack provided. The sound is very good to my old ears, equal to the CD player, and more that adequate for the generally poor acoustics of a 911.

I have been curious about that mod. I've seen several german audio specialists who offer the service or offer radios for sale with the modification already completed. Is there any chance you took a picture of the internals and seen where the leads are soldered onto?

This is what I used to connect the phone/ipod on my CR-1. It works great and easy to install.

I saw this but passed on it because it is still a broadcast solution that runs through the FM tuner. It may be better since it disconnects the antenna so there is minimal outside interference. But there is a lot going on here, converting the audio signal to an analog FM signal and then through the tuner to the preamp. Is the sound quality equal to the CD player?

The factory radio solution is different, it does not go through the tuner, it routes the audio signal directly to the pre-amp. Just one jack, no switch. But also, no charging. It costs a little more and you have to ship the head unit to have it modified. However the sound quality is equal to the CD player. I preferred this solution. YMMV

the sound is really pretty good, but not perfect. I have never actually used the cd player so I don't how the quality is on that.

This article explains much better than I did about the superiority of the direct connection solution:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/fmtransmitters.html

The bottom line of this article:

"we would grade a wireless FM transmitter as a 1, very, very poor quality; and we would grade a wired FM transmitter as a 1.5, slightly better, but seriously flawed, and lastly, we would grade a direct connection auxiliary input converter as a 12, off the chart. Whatever the audio sounds like when it leaves the digital MP3 player, will be the way it sounds when it comes out of your car radio speakers."
