I understand that the tray is there in order to meet Swiss noise regulations.

Steve Weiner says leave them off. That's good enough for me.

Since we are theorizing here...What about the lift? Wouldn't removing tray create lift and turbulence at the rear?
Hmmm, lift...at what mph? ...And maybe all that turbulence you speak of, just might help cool the engine area?

325 mph, that's common knowledge!

Porsche 993's are the highest state of tune of the aircooled motors...A cooler running motor (relatively speaking) is a happy and longer living motor, all things being equal.

Heat causes stress in all mechanical parts...and that's all I have to say about that...Gump, people call me Forrest Gump

I have mine stored in a secure facility. Someday I am sure it will be worth more than the rest of my car.

Yeah, when we run out of plastics and marauding bands of futuristic hoodlums roam the Earth in search of the last plastic pieces, yours will be worth a fortune. You might be able to actually make a deal with someone to pay shipping for it at that time.

Well, you almost made me blow my circuits with that mention of non-OEM battery!

Well not sure if it will help you NA guys but if I can take my tray on and off on my lowered and slightly modded turbo without having to jack it up, I will log oil/head temps (not sure what the obd measures but I can get temp - ait and I assume the other is oil or head temp - I know it maxes out when hot and doesn't go any higher). With the tray on and off on my next track day - but that will have to wait til spring.

I keep mine off for no other reason than to avoid the oil from pooling in it LOL

If you look at high-performance race cars and exotics, the entire underbody is covered to create a flat surface, ostensibly for low-lift racing dynamics (forgive my lack of proper racing vernacular). In principle, I can see the advantages of having a tray for high-speed driving/racing. That said, I don't believe there are any negative effects (or advantages) if your tray is removed, especially for street cars. My car came without the tray and I have no intention of replacing it.

Here is the best use I've found for these things; keeps the leaves out of my air conditioner.
