Introduction - this one found ME
Hello all. I just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I recently purchased a 1998 C2S and am beyond excited. For those of you that are ADD or are really just here to see the pictures, please skip to the bottom of the post. The cliffs version is that I have wanted a Porsche for a really long time and finally got one.
For those of you that are bored at work, looking to waste some time, or are just interested in my story, please feel free to keep reading.
I wanted a Porsche since I was 4 years old. I had a die cast Porsche and thought that it was the coolest car ever. I remember having my mom glue a makeshift siren on top because I wanted to be a police officer and figured that I could catch anybody in a police Porsche. Growing up, I always gravitated to the Porsche design. Shirts, toys, pinewood derby cars…. had to be Porsche.
I knew that someday, I had to own one. I have owned a few VWs (poor man's Porsche) over the years and always enjoyed that air-cooled sound. But what I dreamed about was owning either a 356A or a 993 (actually both but don't tell my wife).
Anyway, fast forward about 32 years.
A few weeks ago, my brother (who works in the car business) called me about a black on black 993, 6 speed C2S that he took in on trade. He sent me a picture, like he usually does when he gets something in at his shop that he knows I will like. I told him I would really like to see it in person before he sold it (purely just to look and appreciate it). The next day he called and asked if he could borrow my truck. I told him to come and get it and just bring me something to drive. Well, he showed up in the 993. I drove it around a bit that afternoon and was absolutely blown away.
I asked him if I could just meet him at his house that evening to swap back, so that I could drive it a little bit more. Driving back to his house I took one of the toll roads here in Dallas. Now, this is going to sound really cheesy, but I had one of those rare, perfect moments driving to his house. I was cursing about 70 with the windows down and the sun setting in front of me and listening to the sweet, sweet sound of the exhaust. I know it is just a car, but it was an absolutely amazing feeling and lived up to everything I imagined it should be.
Like I said, I was not looking to buy a Porsche, but I had an idea of what it was worth. So, when I dropped it off at his house I asked him "how much do you need to get for this one" just to remind myself that it didn't fit my budget yet. When he told me what the "brother deal" number was, I went immediately went to go by flowers for my wife. We talked about it for a couple of days to make sure that this unexpected purchase wouldn't stretch us too much. Two days later, we took it home. All I can say is that I am a really lucky guy.
A little bit about the car. One owner (I'm the second), all records (decent maintenance). It has spent it's whole life here in Dallas. The engine is strong, original paint, and had just recently had the 30k service. Currently sitting at just over 31K miles.
I know that this would be worthless without pictures, so here you go. This was after our first oil change and bath.

I enjoyed your story. Especially the part about wanting one when you were young, and the fact that your brother took care of you. I just wonder why anyone would "trade-in" such a fine sample to a dealership. Welcome to the forum. I've spend hours here (mostly reading) with no regrets.

I shudder to think in today's market...what this car could bring. The difference between "brother" pricing, and current market value could be $30K.
Welcome, that's a Holy Grail car for some.
