New driveline product for 993 C4/TT variants!
We just finished our work on fixing a common problem in all 993 C4 and TTs where the torque tube drive shaft fractures and causes a loss of the four wheel drive feature.
Our research found the original drive shaft is constructed of a hollow tube where the splined end shaft which engages into the transmission is simply welded together. Time and aggressive driving can fracture the weld.
We designed a replacement shaft which is longer and is mechanically captured within the original hollow drive shaft. This was harder to design and execute than simply welding it back together, but we felt welding was not the proper choice for several reasons.
Below is a shot of our new splined end installed into the original 993 torque tube drive shaft. The splined end is made of a heat treated/cold finished material which is stronger than the stock piece (shown below the new one) it replaces. The splined end fits the 993 end coupler perfectly as the original.
With this new product we can now service any 993 C4 or 993 TT owner when it comes time to refresh their torque tube and who wants to retain the originality of their Porsches four wheel drive system.
This newly fixed drive shaft will be tested in a volunteers 993 C4 if he is still on board. If not, we might be needing a volunteer from this group.
