Default Oops, lost a screw

So there I was, installing my dash top that was recently wrapped in alcantara, and I dropped a screw into the defroster vent at the base of the windshield. Oops. It's out of sight too. I dropped a magnet thing to into the vent to try and grab it but no luck.
Does anyone know if there's a bottom to this vent and access so I can retrieve the screw?

And can you try something sticky, like duct tape or blue tac?

ha ha, i see. The problem is that the screw has disappeared down to who knows where. I should have specifically asked if anyone has disassembled the car enough to know how to find the 'bottom' of the vent.

Magnet on a string or strings with some tie wire for guiding help is your best bet.

The dash vent is part of the air box, don't forget you can remove the pollen filters and get a look in behind the evaporator, you may get lucky having it drop right down in there. maybe cycle the defrost vent solenoids to see if that helps with access.

Hi Christian,

If you go to this link, select your model/year, and drill down main group 8, then go through the sub groups related to HVAC, you may be able to see where it might have gone:

http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori...artscatalogue/

It may be irretrievable, but not likely to damage anything--it's doubtful it could get into a fan.

I wouldn't worry about it either. A missing screw, etc. is not going to do any harm. I've done this before on my BMW with no ill effects.

Got it! I worried it would rattle for eternity so I ket trying- this time with a magnet on a stiff aluminum rod. Just a few minutes in and I heard a faint click of the screw attaching.
Thanks a lot for the tips.
