Do I have to remove the seat in order to replace the DME relay?

ECU is under your seat...the DME lives in the fuse box under the bonnet.

Even on older 911's, where the DME and relay are under the seat, the seat doesn't need to come out. But, that's academic on a 993.

only if you have a seat installed in the front trunk on top of the fuse box which is located on the starboard side, under the trunk carpet very near the cowl.

Already answered, but replacing it might not give you any added security if the replacement is no better than the one in the car.

If you are capable of soldering, then all you need to do is re-solder the joints on the circuit board...a ten minute job.

Of the few I have opened and repaired, all had relay contacts that were like new and all had bad solder joints. I can't say that the solder joints on my spare new 993 DME relay are any better than the original 944 DME relay.

I carry a spare, but I highly doubt my original eighteen year old 944 relay will ever fail now that it has been re-worked.

As has been said the 993 DME relays are in the frunk, not under the seat, however it's always a good idea to remove the seats after you first get the car to clean out all the old change and stuff that makes it's way down there (added weight ya know...).
