Default Door Strap Pin Removal

I am attempting to remove my right side door strap in order to modify it before I get the dreaded clicking sound when the spot welds start to give, but cannot knock the pin out (yes I removed the clip). Has anyone encountered this problem? I really have smacked it hard, it won't give at all. Can you dremel off the head of the pin and knock it out from above?

The pin has splines. Perhaps you could spray WD or similar, and let soak for a few hours, then try hammering again. Be patient....

Kroil is an alternative to WD40. In a previous post, it was suggested that a deep socket, or similar, be placed over/around the head of the pin and a compression device, like a C clamp, be used to press the pin out. Using a hammer is a last resort as the impact stresses all attachment points and may well encourage breakage somewhere. Have not attempted, so only a suggestion........

try the door in different spots. It seems like it can bind up a bit if the door is on the detent.

I'm still having nightmares about hammering mine out. They did eventually come out (with who knows how much long-term collateral damage). If I were to do it again, I would try Rick-A-Shay's suggestion with the C-clamp.

Bingo! Kroil and patience worked. Let it soak overnight, popped it out this morning.
Thanks guys, I was about to give up and attack the pin with my Dremel.
