So, where does this go?
I am in the final stages of my engine rebuild. Getting ready to put the engine in the car this week. Went through my carefully labelled box of parts and had this ground strap lying there with no label and I absolutely can't remember where it belongs. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply. The wire could go there although I don't see it any of the engine photos I took right after I dropped the motor. There is another wire grounded to the body in that vicinity but it uses a much smaller screw than the lug on the wire.
I'll keep searching for the moment.
Thanks
John

Do you mean the starter? There is a ground strap is still on the car now and that one attaches to the bottom mounting stud for the starter motor.
I had seen references to a strap from the alternator to the engine case but I think this was for older cars. I don't remember such a strap my car and none of my photos show it.
Thanks
John

No not in those pictures and it is not the ground strap to the starter. The ground strap to the starter I left connected to the chassis and it is sitting there waiting for the engine.
It is some sort of secondary ground strap. Either engine to body or gear box to body, not sure which.
Thanks for all of the input so far. Soon the collective knowledge of Rennlist will find where it goes. I am confident of that.
Thanks
John

Thanks for all the replies. I now feel officially like an idiot. It is in fact the starter ground wire.
A friend who had moved on from Porsches had given me a box of parts last year which I had put in storage. I some how got the wire separated from the collection of stuff I was given and it ended up with the parts from my engine drop. When I got up under the car this morning I confirmed the mystery wire and the one still in the car were in fact the same. I have had the engine out of the car so long I completely forgot the sequence when taking it apart. Good thing this was the only thing not labelled.
Thanks again for all the prompt replies yesterday. Into the car the engine goes today.
